The Burgomaster

This one just barely makes it into the "Good Movies" category.  The first half had a good amount of irreverent humor, but it seems like they ran out of ideas and nearly killed the movie toward the end by turning it into an action thriller.

This movie has several inside jokes for movie fans, and some humor that is more relevant if you live in the Boston area (as I do).

***SPOILER ALERT***

Some of the funniest moments involve Sam Jones from the campy FLASH GORDON movie from 1980.

I rate it 2.5 / 5 (but the final 20 minutes or so get only about a 1.5).  As I said, there are several good laughs, but this is still a "wait for DVD or cable" movie.

I completely agree.  It's a just barely 6/10, and very uneven.  Kind of what I'd expect from Seth MacFarlane.  Some parts are really funny, then it drags for like 10 minutes and gets too serious.

I do think you should spoiler the parts about the 80s cameo..  Think it might be better left as a surprise, as that was the best part of the film.

Ah I thought it was actually pretty decent.  Lot of laughs, and the cinema I saw it at was packed full of people laughing too.

Macfarlane does get a bit sappy and serious on occasion which I agree can drag the pacing a bit, and some of it was uneven, but overall I'd rate it 3/5: a good laugh and makes me remember that Mark Wahlberg is becoming a pretty versatile actor [he played his part as the 'adult who plays with his teddy still' really well I thought.]

Done.  I didn't really consider this to be a spoiler at first, but you make a good point about it being a funny surprise.

I hated this movie.

Most works by MacFarlane I don't like though.

OK, I didn't hate the film, but I didn't like it that much.  There were a few bits that made me laugh quite a bit, but overall it just struck me as a mediocre romantic comedy where the novelty of a potheaded cursing teddy bear wears thin way too soon.  I'd say it's so mediocre in fact that it's embarrassing that McFarlane has the gall to make fun of any other films within his own.
