My friend and mentor David Millin ASC made the adventure film Ride The High Wind (aka African Gold) in 1965 which tells the story of an aeroplane crash survivor who stumbles on what could be the last resting place of a fortune in Anglo-Boer War gold. After being rescued, he mounts an expedition to the desert with a group of interested people, little knowing that one of them is a killer.  :buggedout:

I should just add that by making this, David inadvertently made the first South African zombie movie: the final few minutes show a gun toting half corpse - half skeleton killing someone, so it is the first and so far only SA zombie movie.

And it stars a 43 year old Darren McGavin!  That's awesome.  That'd be the youngest I've ever seen him, at least until I get to The Man With The Golden Arm.

Also sounds like it may have had influence on the 1965 Sands of the Kalahari.  Ya think?

It's possible Jim: I do know that both of those were filmed almost at the same time, so I'm not entirely sure.

Pacman000

How did they make the half-skeleton creature?  Stop motion?

Without giving too much away as the DVD is freely available to buy online, the half skeleton / half corpse doesn't move but it does kill the film's main antagonist. This is a seriously creepy film and is even more creepy if you turn the color off your monitor.

Gentlemen:
About the movie "Ride the high wind", I would like some help to watch it again.
I know that in some countries it was advertised under the name "African Gold".
Here in Brazil it was announced with the name "Rastros do ouro sangrento" (Bloody gold trails), so I had great difficulties in locating the original name and thus getting here in this forum.
However, I have tried to locate this film in many ways, but without success.
I watched this movie in the early 70s and I would love to see it again.
So, I would like to know where I can buy, or how to find a copy of this film.
Thank you very much for your attention and I apologize for possible errors in the English language.
Hugs,
Alberto

Hi Alberto: the film was available to buy on DVD up until 2013 and unfortunately is no longer available.

Your best place to try is www.dstvmediasales.com using the contact us page on that site as the company who owns DSTV claims the rights in this film.
