I was just looking thru my Video Movie Guide at the Friday the 13th movies when I noticed on the left page at the very bottom is a movie called "Friday the 13th:the Orphan" It say "(Turkey) No Relation to the popular Slasher Sereis, this one has a disturped youth killing everyone around him." I checked the date of release and it said 1979...one year before Friday the 13th's realase. (bum bum bum) I remeber seeing the box of this movie at my Blockbuster movie store but I'm not sure if it's still there, I thought it wa a Jason Voorhee's movie. But I can't help but wonder if Friday the 13th stole some ideas from this movie. Has anyone seen this movie is it any good? What do you ,the viewer, think?

This sounds like a Roger Corman stunt (Carnasaur->Jurrasic Park) except that I don't think anyone knew how successful the F13 franchise would be

Friday the 13th was hardly groundbreaking in its originality.  It was just an exploitation movie, and not a very smart one at that.  Nonetheless, The Orphan was a dull psychodrama about a traumatized kid that kills his guardian and psychiatrist when he discovers the two are boinking.  At least that is all I remember from reading the novelization for it back in '79 or '80, that and being unimpressed with the turgid story and lack of promised bloodletting.  When Friday the 13th came out, the distributors altered the title to lure unsuspecting viewers into theaters by making them think that this movie was some how related to the slasher hit.

THE ORPHAN was released first, but it started out with a different title and "borrowed" the FRIDAY THE 13TH title AFTER the more popular movie was released.

OHHH.. they tagged on Friday the 13th AFTER "Friday the 13th" was realeased to do that cash in thing, well it almost worked for me but I was too young to rent The Orphan, but none the less they made me think it was a Jason movie.
