I got out for a shoreline ramble and found one of the best artifacts I have ever picked up!

You can see how much bigger it is than all the other points I've found.  In 35 years I've only picked up two that were bigger than this one.

Round backed knives like that are hard to date, but it came from a site where I find a lot of Middle Archaic stuff - 3,000 to 5,000 years old.

Congrat's Indy, that's an amazing find!  Older than my mother in law as they say.

That's a pretty sweet haul.

What type of rock is that big one?

That is Edwards Plateau Flint, from down in the Texas Hill Country.  That material travelled a couple hundred miles to get here.

Nice find!  I've heard that winter collecting can be better than other times because less people are looking, although I don't know how true that is in your neck of the woods.

It gets, you know, cold here in the winter.

Fewer people hunting, and our lake levels tend to be fairly low this time of year, exposing sites that were covered when the reservoir filled.  The hard north winds really roll stuff up along the shoreline!

Yes,I'm fine....as long as I don't look too closely.
