Ok people - if the Spice girls can have their dvd, where is "Night of the comet"?

Yes - a guilty pleasure, it's 1984 and a comet turns everyone into Tang. Scientists track down the few survivors left so they can use them to save themselves, meantime the two girls go shopping - all the hot cars and stuff you want for free. The only problem is the zombies who want to kill them (where else would zombies hang out but the local mall?) But these aren't ordinary teens..they know how to handle assault weapons. When you want to see a dvd release who can you write? I have a list but at least those are sold on VHS or even listed on amazon.

I love this movie! I like how the power just magically stays on even with nobody to run the power stations.

I agree....it was good.

I finally managed to catch this one in its entirety a couple of months ago.

I'll definitely pick it up if they release it on DVD.

I feel a little less embarassed for liking it now, but I was an 80's child so naturally back then I snubbed the Karate Kid films for movies like this. Just last week i caught "night of the creeps" on cable and boy was that a movie I had forgotten about.  There's really little search results in "night of the comet" on the net as well even regarding reviews. It's not that obscure of a movie.

The effects were subtle but cool - the red sunrise..emptry streets..even the cheesy effect of the comet going by overhead and zapping everyone. Truck driver almost gets it by the zombie kid. In the end they must repopulate the earth. But with all animal life zapped away..nobody questions what happens when the canned food goes bad? What happens to nuclear facilities when the power goes out? Ah well..this movie isn't THAT deep.

Was it on a premium channel or something like USA, TNT, etc? The reason I ask is that the basic channels usually show an alternate version. The official version ends after the house blows up and the zombie dog comes along. The basic cable version shows the detective surviving the explosion and walking along as a charred zombie, then I believe he falls over, releasing the parasites that are inside him and they go into a cemetary. Finally you see a spaceship make a slow pass overhead, shining a searchlight on the graves. I think there were a few extra little scenes in other places also.

Truck Driver - Robert Beltram, AKA Chakotay from Star Trek Voyager.

I think about those kind of things too.

I wonder if it's occurred to anyone that if some kind of disaster were to wipe out most of civilization, the people most likely to survive would be the Amish. :)

Nope, detective died and it ended when the girl leaned over to pet the cute doggie (first thing i'd do after watching a house full of squirmy things explode) and the dog shoots one at her. I guess that was the clincher - you go through all that for nuthin! I imagined the scene after that with everyone pummelling her...awww..just when anthony michael hall got a real date!

And rednecks, something tells me...

Oh well. Watch for it to come USA or SciFi, I think they usually show the alternate version.

Standard horror movie tack-on ending...
