Hey folks!
Thanks to BTM's topic of words you like to say/hear, I got an idea for a new topic: how about the flip side?  Words you don't like because they're hard to say, or sound stupid, or whatever.

A few I'm not crazy about:
"forlorn".  It just sounds so stupid and obsolete to me.
"filibuster" is pretty stupid and outdated too.
"pulchritudinous" sounds really dumb.

What have you guys got?
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

Bushma

Almost every kind of "Corp-Speak"

Challenges - Because there are no problems my @ss
Issues - see Challenges
Deltas - why can't you just say "changes" or "losses"
Action Item - Do you mean a verb or are you saying you're actually going to work?

Just some of the ones I hear daily and cause me to want to punch the speaker in the face.

This is my awesome signature.  Jealous?

Mr. DS

Pampered...f'n hate it.  Sends a chill up my spine when someone uses it.
Goodies...lame thing to call good snacks.
"Did"...only in a setting of someone saying "I got my nails/hair did today..."

"You think the honey badger cares?  It doesn't give a sh*t."  Randall

guillotine = french type pronounciation  gee a teen
When they talk about gold on CNBC they sometimes say Goldilocks which is stupid

Hate to say this, retrorussell, but I like all the words you used as an example.

Number one on my list of hated words is "shammy". (That's right, I put the period outside the quotation marks, and one day the world will agree with me.)

I just hate the word from the very sound of it. It's just a collection of weak-by-themselves vocal sounds packed into one uber-unpleasant word. If I had to describe the word itself, I would call it "flabby", a word it structurally has a lot in common with.

I'm not altogether sure why it strikes me so wrong, but that doesn't stop me from hating it.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

Diva - instantly makes me think self-worshiping narcissist.  Apparently that's a compliment these days.
Bling.  I've always hated that word, it's synonymous with gaudy and in poor taste.  I thought it died out but egads, it seems to be making a minor comeback.
The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.

I hate the word 'Gangsta' now, as it implies, to me at least, corporate whore. Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, the list goes on.

You sir, deserves a medal. Great explanation of some words I hate!

yeah no.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: "awesome."  If you're using the same word to describe a Photoshopped picture of Yoda spouting a catchphrase, and the experience of seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time, that word has become meaningless.

Actually, I think "awesome" is so overused that you cannot call something that legitimately inspires awe "awesome" without sounding flippant. If someone described the experience of looking into their newborn child's eyes as "awesome," I'd suspect they're not serious enough about parenting.

Also, if my nephew calls me "dude" one more time I'm strangling him, blood relation be damned.

"Meme" (a once-great word that can no longer be used in its original sense).

Pretty much all slang, until the point when it becomes forgotten and uncool and can be reclaimed by thinking people.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

ChaosTheory

Oh, pipe down, I say "awesome" all the time (I was a child in the 80s, just be glad I don't use "radical")

I have always hated the word "panties."  It's just so stupid and cutesy and pervy all at once.

I also hate the phrase "think outside the box" - it's just more corporate BS; the worst thing is it's also a complete lie.  There's nothing corporate heads value less than original thinking.
Through the darkness of future past
The magician longs to see
One chance opts between two worlds
Fire walk with me

tracy

I hate "baby bump".....I find it insensitive and just plain disrespectful. The lady is having a child, not a pimple!
Yes,I'm fine....as long as I don't look too closely.

I hate words that people make up for no particularly good reason, that rip off other words.
"Pwned" is stupid.
And I hate when people change the "s" at the end of a word to "z" (like, "boyz").  Utterly dumb.
Yeah, I hate "bling" too.
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

Snapback- It's called a Trucker hat FFS!, also, the name can imply you snapped someone's neck backwards.

YOLO- An Abbriviation to You Only Live Once, it's a motto that young stupid kids use before doing something that harms, even kills them. Example, 'I'm drunk and going 100+ on the streets. #YOLO' I know of about the Darwins Awards, however, these kids seem to have lost a few brain cells and having them in the awards seem to kill the amusement of the strangest deaths of the year awards.

Swag- Basically, anyone who saids this, I want to punch them, as it implies that they are richer than me, and all of that gloating makes me want to rip them in half.
yeah no.

Best part of a not-so-good movie.

Pretty much ALL P-C terms, , because they're generally propagated by people who only care about feeling superior to other people, or who like having professional victim status.
If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

The choice is simple; refuse to create, and refuse to grow, or build, with care and love.
