Apparently someone named Christian Bale will be the new Dark Knight.  Haven't seen American Psycho, so I know squat about him.  Except he's British.  That would explain the butler.

Bale also played the leader of the British in "Reign of Fire".

For the most part I think he's a decent actor.

It remains to be seen how well he'll do as Batman.
They'll begin filming the new Batman movie early next year.
(No title that I know of yet)

Great Sage

I can't stand Batman!!!  Someone please put an end to all this Bat-Crap.

Nope.....he's British.

The sad thing is that he's the same age as me (29) but looks at least 5 to 10 years older.

In my opinion he looks to be in his mid to late 30's.

I can see it. I think he's a pretty intense actor. Very talented. Though sometimes talent is not a plus in franchise situations(see Timothy Dalton). I enjoyed all the Batman flicks, except Part 2, probably a result of not expecting to much. I wonder if they're gonna stick with the Robin thing or ditch him to focus more on Batman(prolly be a good idea).

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.

Well Raj, you have given us some interesting news. I , for one didn't even realize that a new addition to the Batman franchise was in the works. The choice of Christian Bale to portray the Caped Crusader was an equally surprising one, as I had no idea he was even considered. All things considered though, I have seen Bale in American Psycho, so I am aware of his acting prowess (Being an actor myself). If the director has noticed something in him that makes them feel he is right for the part, then I say give him an opportunity. I too, am looking forward with great anticipation to a new and hopefully revamped Batman, because the last two entries did atrociously bad at the Box Office, especially 4. Maybe this new Batman film which I hear might  be called Batman the Dark Knight can breathe new life into  an already tired formula. Let's hope.

Cool that he's a good actor.  I gave up on the series after #2, it got to be too hard to figure out who was playing Batman.  Maybe he'll fit the role well, and they'll keep him on for 3-4 movies.

Dolph Lundgren

Christian Bale is THE MAN.  Picking him to play Batman was a brilliant move, IMO.  This movie just catapulted to a highly anticipated spot in my book.

C'mon, he has the physical prowess (Equilibrium anyone?) and the attitude down pat.  Considering who he was up against (the kid from Mighty Ducks/Dawson's Creek, Ashton Kutcher, and that weird looking kid that starred in Bubble Boy?  What the hell?) this was easily the best move.  He's a vastly underrated and unknown actor.  Hopefully he'll kick ass in this movie and get the attention he deserves.

I was worried he might be a little young and too short for the role.

But hey, he's 6'1, hes got a good build he needs to bulk up some sicne batman is a side of meat. He knows martial arts and hes proven he can be a distrubed character(american psycho) I'd say we got ourselves a good bat.

Hes only 29 years old which would make him the youngest actor to play batman, but hey I have faith in him. Lets hope the script is good enough because they 've already gotten an A director an A leading man and a big budget. lets hope they dont joel Schumacher this.

as long as george clooney isn't involved anywhere in the films, i'll be happy.
i also heard that the main villain in this film may be scarecrow, so probably another similar storyline of scientist who has a grudge against bruce wayne turns into supervillain through freak accident [like the riddler and poison ivy]

the series went way downhill after number 2, they need to cut back on the wacky sets [comeon, all those bloody statues everywhere was just insane. they should stick to the simple gothic type city]

i really don't mind if they keep up with robin, though he's really not needed, but remember they also included batgirl in the last film, so i wonder whats going to happen there?
keep it dark, less wacky, and simple.  it will be so much the better for it, not this 'i have a car which looks like it has a million holes in it and lots of wings and i like to fight guys who glow in the dark' crap that has been going on the last few films.

oh yeah, btw jake gyllenhall, the 'wierd looking' guy from bubble boy is a great actor [just look at donnie darko] but wouldn't be a great batman, though he would be ok as spiderman [wasn't he going to take over from maguire at some stage?]

When are the mayor and the commissioner going to wise up that Batman/Wayne are the *cause* of most of the city's problems and run him out of town?

You mean you don't *like* the "cique de soleil" look?

haha!  the newer batmen [!] movies do have a tendency for the 'cirque de soleil' look that freep mentioned.  i think the producers got the idea in their heads that this was what we wanted to see in a batman movie [it was kinda cool the first time they did it, but then overused it bigtime]  i get the impression they interviewed a test audience about what they thought was cool in the movies, and they all answered 'glow in the dark dudes'
and then someone decided that batman needed to be funnier and they cast george clooney.
whoever was in the audience that day should be dumped in a vat of chemicals...
