Underworld: When Good Ideas Happen To Dumb People

Well, this movie certainly should have kicked considerable amounts of ass.  But...um...well...the werewolf suits looked pretty nifty when they weren't portrayed by Playstation-level CGI.
Kraven tried so hard to cover his accent it jumbled his dialogue and he ended up sounding like Tor Johnson in Plan 9.  And they blew their chance to have one absolutely bad-ass monster at the end by having it look like a halfhearted attempt at Nightcrawler.
Ross Hagen once said the most dangerous thing you can do to a b-movie is give it too much money.  If Underworld had been made by people with a true feel for making a cool movie to balance all the money thrown at special effects, it could have rocked.  As it is, what we have here is a movie made by some guys who spend too much time playing that damn Vampire: The Masquerade LARP and thought it'd be really cool if they put it up on the screen.

yeah i was afraid that would happen.  i liked the basic idea and i still want to go see it, but when i heard that they were going to have a love story between a vampire and a werewolf a little red flag popped up in my head.  then i saw the trailer with a really awful looking lycan/werewolf effect and i just thought 'noooooooooo'

I love the whole basic premise for underworld: vampires, werewolfs and all that, and with guns no less, but i've always maintained that the people in charge of this movie needed to tread carefully and if they didn't, the film would fall on it's arse.

and now it looks like my worst fears were realised.  i'm still going to see it though!

btw, i'm also really concerned with the Aliens Vs Predator film, and i hope to god they don't set it in the present, on earth, and with no mention of the marines. if they do that we're all screwed.
