CAHILL: U.S. MARSHALL (1973) - Good Western starring John Wayne as a U.S. Marshall with two young sons involved in a bank robbery. Witty Western dialogue and good story move this film along. I enjoyed this film that have some interesting names in the credits:

John Wayne
George Kennedy
Neville Brand
Jackie Coogan
Harry Carry Jr.
Denver Pyle
Pepper Martin

Neville

Wayne at his decadence, when he played Wayne himself rather than "real" characters, but still fun. I really liked the beginning, when one of those criminals he arrests tells him he is stupid to confront them, but "has style". A nice touch.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

The Burgomaster

This is not one of my favorite westerns, but it is okay. Some of the exterior scenes were obviously filmed on sets with fake trees and bushes, which is very distracting.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Next I'll probably be renting ROOSTER COGBURN and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF. What do you think of them?

The Burgomaster

Sadly enough, I have never seen ROOSTER COGBURN or SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF. But they are on my long list of movies to see.

My favorite westerns are (in no particular order):

* THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE
* SHANE
* THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
* RIO BRAVO
* THE COWBOYS
* THE WILD BUNCH
* THE SEARCHERS
* THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
* EL DORADO
* UNFORGIVEN
* THE LONG RIDERS (not a great movie, but a lot of fun)
* TRUE GRIT
* HIGH NOON

I am anxiously awaiting the upcoming DVD release of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, because I don't think I have ever seen the entire movie.

I'm sure I left a few off my list, but those are my main favorites.

My movie marathon has taken me through most of the Sci-Fi/Horror that I can find, so this year has been the year of t he Western for me. In less than 12 months I've seen 75 Westerns 55 that I consider good-great. It's a genre that I hadn't explored even though some of my favorite movies were Westerns.

I'm going to try to list my favorite 10 Westerns, but that really isn't fair because there are many very good Westerns:

1) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
2) Fist Full of Dynamite
3) My Name is Nobody
4) The Magnificent Seven
5) Once Upon A Time in the West
6) Tombstone
7) Little Big Man
8) The Ballad of Cable Hogue
9) High Plains Drifter
10) Django

In my opinion out of all the great characters, stories, action, music, cinematography that can be found in a Western the most interesting element the Western is the West itself. The West "is" the atmosphere ulike a Sci-Fi/Horror film.
