A thread for remembering the dreadful "horror" films of '06

Yeah, many recent horror gets hate, especcially the big-budget ones, which frankly I consider deserved.

But it is disturbing just how many wretched horror films were regurgitated into cinemas in one year - 2006!

Final Destination 3 - The point the franchise's quality is often considered to deteriorate

Something I've noticed at various horror message boards over the years, Final Destination 3 has become a personal favorite of many. Myself didn't care much about part 3 but I must say after repeated viewings it has started to grow on me. Some flicks just need a little time and patience.

I haven't seen everything on that list, but I didn't mind the "Hills Have Eyes" remake or "Final Destination 3." I didn't hate the "Black Christmas" remake either, though that may have been due more to the eye-candy factor (Michele Trachtenberg! Lacey Chabert!) than the actual film quality....

On the other hand, "Stay Alive" was pretty lame and the remakes of "The Omen" and the "Fog" (which I had the misfortune to sit through just a few weeks ago) were utterly unnecessary

You're a better man than I, Gunga Din, for sitting all the way through the remake of "The Fog". I managed, maybe, the first 30 minutes before my head hurt so much from being hit over the head with the spoon-feeding the script was doing that I had to stop. It's one of those movies I pray someone like Jason suddenly appears and starts slaughtering characters for no reason other than the movie just sucks butt.

My ten year old found it in the "Free On Demand" list on our cable. I thought it was going to be the original when I clicked on it... imagine my surprise.

My son enjoyed it but...he's ten. Haha. I stuck with it mainly for his sake. Though I did tell him that one fine day I'm going to get the original so he can see how good that story can REALLY be.

I find it interesting how many of these are retreads of really good movies from the past, yet are so so awful.

I haven't seen any of those but SILENT HILL - but I liked it. The rest look horrible and I have no interest in them, except for the WICKER MAN remake in a "so-bad-it's-good" sense.

Of the ones on that list, I would go to bat for SILENT HILL.  It is one of my favorite horror films.

I was looking forward to Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning because I really liked Jordana Brewster in The Faculty, but that movie...I can't remember anything about it other than that it did absolutely nothing for me. 

Silent Hill - $50 million worth of CGI is impressive.  It is in no way scary though.  Maybe if it had a character I could give a damn about in a situation that was frightening instead of constantly making me think "Wow those effects must have cost a lot of money."

Turistas - didn't work for me because even though those kids were on vacation and I guess it's not too odd that they were acting irresponsibly, the whole time I knew it was a horror movie and their carefree attitude was going to result in their deaths.  So that made them seem like absolute morons.  And didn't it just descend into torture porn by the halfway point?  I can't even remember.

Stay Alive - about people playing a video game.  As a gamer myself I found the characters and situation completely unbelievable.

Mid 2000's really was over the top for how many remakes were being made seems that trend is largely going away (although a carrie remake is coming soon). I think the Hills have Eyes remake is a perfectly fine movie. I will agree that Turistas and Pulse were pretty garbage though.

I will defend The Wicker Man though I watched it recently expecting it to be completely awful. What I got instead was a hokey but nicely paced and excellently shot little movie. It didn't take itself too seriously and Cage is immensely watchable in his role. Sadly the version I saw excluded the infamous bee pouring scene.
