THE MUMMY (1932) - I've seen most of the mummy films from Universal, Hammer, and the recent ones, but the original is the best of all. Boris Karloff stars in this one as the Mummy. He only has an early seen were he wears the mummy wrap. The rest of the film he wears an middle eastern fez. There is so much that is good in this film like the make-up, the best heart attack scene, the flashbacks, and of coarse Boris Karloff. If you haven't seen the original check it out this month. It should be on TV again somewhere.

All the original Universal monsters movies are very well done. FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA, WOLFMAN, INVISIBLE MAN, and THE MUMMY.

The Burgomaster

I bought the "Classic Monsters" DVD set about a year ago and it was one of the best investments I ever made. It includes the following Universal classics:

* FRANKENSTEIN
* BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
* DRACULA
* THE MUMMY
* THE INVISIBLE MAN
* THE WOLF MAN
* PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
* CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON

I watched BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN a few nights ago . . . I had forgotten how great it is. The lighting is really creepy, and the direction and film editing are really unique compared to most other movies from the 1930s. I really enjoyed watching it again.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

I'm not a big fan of The Mummy .   For me, it's too slow, too dull, and it has a one hour romance (as in "I've known you for one hour but I love you".)  And then there's the deus ex machina ending...

Karloff is excellent, as always, and there is a brief gore scene that caught me off guard, but outside of that, it's a time waster at best.  For my money, the 1959 Mummy is far superior.

(Hammer movies in general are superior, but that's material for another thread...)

Probably will.  It's not THAT bad, after all.
