My head is still spinning. I had a disturbing conversation tonight with a Taiwanese gentleman in his seventies. He told me that the Taiwanese people are so afraid of losing a war with mainland China and being conquered that virtually every household has specific drugs on hand that parents can use to kill their children and then take to end their own lives rather than live under Chinese rule. He seemed completely serious but I'd never heard of that. Can he be right that a whole nation has a sort of Masada complex? I knew the Taiwanese were hard-core and sort of like Asia's version of Israelis, but that's just horrible.

It's so funny watching my pit bull try to play with my cat. The cat is just being a cat an laying on a cardboard box that he found, and the pit is trying to get his tail and nip at his ears. Eventually the cat gets so annoyed he gets out of the box and chases the pit down the hall.

It is easy for people to believe that everyone around them shares their outlook and is just as they are: seeing things the same way, thinking the same thoughts, living the same way.  That degree of uniformity seems extreme and unlikely without some sort of enforcement.  I would think it is very possible this person was projecting his view on his whole nation.  Also very possible he was exaggerating in order to make a point; or just messing with you.

Today, while flipping through channels on one of the TVs in the break room at work, I came across this Twitter hashtag on Fox News: #TheBlob. I watched eagerly, but there was no mention of flesh-dissolving space phlegm, so I was quite disappointed.
