My daughter now cofesses that both both films have their strong points and today she found out some how that the beginning and end footage wasn't real, but still says it's based on a true story. I showed her the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE last year when she told me that no movie is scary except THE RING.

I hope by The Ring she means Ringu and not the lame American remake.  Ugh.  Remakes in general suck.  Hey, I'm 21 and I get it, does that make me a cool youth or is that just old enough to be in the know?
By the way, the whole "based on a true story" thing is referring to the fact that Leatherface is VERY loosely based on Wisconsinite serial killer Ed Gein who liked to dig up graves and wear women's skin.  His case preceeded the original movie by 20 years or so.  The skin mask is also a take on an idea one of the crew members had when he was in med school.  He cut the skin off the face of one of the class cadavers and made a Halloween mask out of it.  Ain't I just a font of useless crap?
