To Andrew: Possible Moderators

Andrew, In your Message Board Spam post, you mentioned that you might appoint some moderators.

I personally would like to be one.
I can recommend a few other regulars as well.
Burgomaster, Scott, Fearless Freep & I are the foremost prominent posters on this board...we're here pretty much everyday.  With 4 moderators who all seem to be on the board at different times of the day, you'd have the entire clock covered.  We could save you alot of time & hassle by moderating this board for you.

I've been a regular here for over 2 years and I know a problem when I see one. What we experienced the other day definitely qualifies.

If granted, we will be fair, not overstep the scope of our authority and only expel those who SERIOUSLY abuse their priveleges on this board.  We would only get rid of irritants after the majority here on the board requests us to and if all of the moderators agree that the person should be removed.  (assuming that the others want to take on the duty)  If appointed as moderators, we could communicate via e-mail or this board to make such decisions.  Having several moderators will instate the checks & balances theory...one of us will not be able to take full control which is what none of us wants.  It will always come down to a vote.  (Will we get our names in bold text like yours if we're moderators?! Hehe! J.K.)

After all like you stated before, this is your virtual house and any behavior that you wouldn't condone in your own house goes the same for here.  Since the man of the house (you) isn't here very often, I personally feel that moderators are necessary since most of the bad behavior goes on while you're away.
Fortunately, extremely rude behavior and spamming are at a minimun right now but you never know when trouble might arise.  If we're here while you're gone, we can effectively take care of it in an organized, appropriate & professional manner.

Please grant us these moderation powers to control spamming and irregular activity while you are away to maintain order while still making it a great place to chat about B-Movies!.

What say you all?

I'm here pretty much daily, though I don't always post.

My pressenceI might "predate" the current message board, which would put me at or around three years here.  I know for a fact there are others here who "predate" me.

I also can see problems starting, such as the kind Cheeky Monkey (let's face it; as irritating as he was, there have been worse.)

All of this said just to illustrate one point - there might be others as suited if not more so to the post than the ones listed here.

I don't see the need of moderators beyond Andrew ; the problems pop up irregularly and are dealt with swiftly.

If Moderators are recruited, I see no problems with either ASHTHECAT or the people he listed doing the job.  I wouldn't kick if asked, myself.  (Volunteering, however, seems a bit presumptuous - the only real complaint I have with this thread.)

Like I said, I see no point in more moderators at this time.  Not that my opinions matter much, but there it is.

You know, people are much less likely to take you seriously if you tell them that your opinion doesn't matter...

It's redunant anyways.  EVERYONE knows my opinion doesn't matter.

...

Okay, no one's laughing at that one.

I do have people in mind, if it becomes needed.  Honestly, problems are so far in between - it is not a big issue.  If I get deployed, then I will definitely have to set some people as moderators.

Anyone but ASHTHECAT.

I'm more with Cullen and Andrew on this one.  While I'm honored and appreciative that you put me in such company, ASHTHECAT, I really think that such incidents as would require a Moderator tend to be isolated and far enough between.    If Andrew runs into difficulties keeping up with things, I'd gladly help out, but so far, from a user's perspective, he seems to be doing pretty well.

I'm inclined to agree that the problem, if there is one, is nothing Andrew can't handle. This is probably about the most spam-free board I've frequented. Good manners and mutual respect also seem to be enforced pretty well by the group on the odd occasion somebody comes trolling.

There is also something a little bit disturbing about Ash's eagerness to take charge, while buddying up to a few of the more respected posters. "Come on guys, we're the ones who keep this board going. Who's with me?"

We really don't need to start forming cliques of the "real" members of the group. Too many message boards have been ruined by that attitude. There are quite a few of us who visit here daily and contribute a lot to discussions, and have done so for years. I, for one, would like to see it remain the nice little community it is.

I don't see it happening often enough either...what do we average, a problem maybe once per month, if that?

This is a nice little community.  I probably spent at least 6 months visiting this site just to read the reviews before I ever entered the message boards to see what was going on.  Now, I'm addicted.

I think I'd read almost all the reviews on the site before I noticed the "Message Board" link...

Funny, I was the same way, and now it's almost entirely about the message board for me. Now, it usually takes me days to get around to reading a new review when one appears, but I might check for new posts on here a few times a day, if there's an interesting discussion going on.

Sorry all.....

It was just a suggestion I thought I'd mention but I guess it's obvious that moderators aren't needed.
I didn't mean to "buddy" up with anyone...I simply chose 3 random names of prominent posters here.

Again...it was just a suggestion.

The first rule of becoming a moderator is you DO NOT ASK TO BE A MODERATOR.

Well, that seems to be what most boards say these days.  :)
