I wasn't around until the '80s, but there's some 'hippie' music I dig, depending on your definition of hippie.
Jefferson Airplane
Jefferson Airplane -White Rabbit-

Mamas and the Papas
California Dreamin - Mamas & The Papas

Donovan
Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man (1968) Original Video

Beyond them, I don't know.  I never really pictured Hendrix as a 'hippie', but that's me.

Don't get too close, it's dark inside.
It's where my demons hide, it's where my demons hide.

HENDRIX was beloved of the marginalized.

Dang-this is an old thread-Tara Sue was alive.

Hippies-I aint changed my opinion much-I still think their idealist naive idiots -watch the tv show Portlandia-

as far as the music goes-Hendrix and Janis were the best things to come out of that mess.

But I dont consider them "hippie" music-they were more blues based-  peace-and love-BAH!!

I like the ideas of hippies-except-well-their a bunch of f**king p***ys.

and punk is dead too.

Its ALL dead. and worthless-its all a cultural fluke that means NOTHING as far as music goes now-it was good-but now its meaningless-because all new music is s**t.

Every mentions the same old acts when the conversation turns to hippy music.

What about these if you want groups rarely mentioned ...

1910 Fruitgum Company
The Dinosaurs
The Youngbloods
Strawberry Alarm Clock
Sopwith Camel
The Magic Mushrooms
Country Joe And The Fish
The Human Expression
Herman's Hermits
Buffalo Springfield
Big Brother and the Holding Company
Fifty Foot Hose
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Bermuda Triangle Band
Rick And The Ravens
The Psychedelic Rangers

to name a few ...

Whatever happened to this f**king guy?

I liked Cheezy-he was a hard core Republican-I aint got no one to tell me I'm an idiot no more!
I like Indy too much to argue with him-dam-I miss Cheezy!

Where the f**k is Cheezy? any one know?
I'd like to talk to ol' boy again.

Yeah, like Jimi said:

if all the hippies cut off all their hair,
I don't care, I don't care.
'cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you.
The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.

I remember when I was a little kid and we went into a store and there was a hippie chick in there.  She had a bit of an "aroma zone" out to about a 20' radius  :teddyr:

I rather like hippy music.  Not crazy about the lifestyle (we have it in downtown Portland).  The first handful of songs I think of in this genre:
INCENSE AND PEPPERMINTS
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense And Peppermints
GREEN TAMBOURINE
Lemon Pipers - Green Tambourine
GOING UP THE COUNTRY
"Going up the Country" - Canned Heat / WOODSTOCK '69
SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco - Scott McKenzie
THE RAIN, THE PARK AND OTHER THINGS
The Cowsills - The Rain, The Park and Other Things 1967 Video stereo SD widescreen
