The company that I've worked at for the last 18 years will be closing it's doors shortly, I told them I would stay till the end.  I have always wanted a job where I got paid, but didn't have to work, now that I've got one I have to say it's really BORING !!  On the plus side however, when I get home my wife doesn't ask how my day was.

Dennis?

Only in Germany performers like this make the #1 album charts.
The popularity of Schlager music and Volkstümliche Musik here in Germany is beyond weird. Think super-sentimental lyrics that will make you cringe, puke and your eyes cross, combined with corny contemporary electronic party-pop muzak. They say their music is honest and sincere and coming straight from the heart. I think its faked because there's tons of money to be made.

I just finished the weeks grocery shopping, went to Badmovies.org, read the review of "The Giant Claw" and I'm now considering watching this film with my wife. Over the last 40 years or so I've inflicted a lot of this sort of thing on her but I'm sure she's never seen this masterpiece, I'm wondering what her reaction will be.

I was told the Westboro Baptist Church plans to demonstrate at Robin Williams' funeral in retaliation for his portrayal of a gay character in a 1990s film. I am not familiar with that group or its agenda, but can anyone explain to me exactly what good Westboro's members believe can possibly arise from doing something so cruelly inappropriate?

They are a hate-mongering, rabidly anti-gay "church" that is a disgrace to the name of Christ.
They are the ones who carry signs at the funerals of American servicemen KIA in Iraq, reading
"God Hates You" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and so on.  Apparently they believe the deaths
of our men and women in uniform are God's punishment on America for our tolerance of
homosexuality.  They protest at the funeral of almost any and every public figure, if there is no
reason they invent one.  Their agenda appears to be to gain publicity for its own sake - one
earlier thread on this forum about them provoked the comment "They won't be happy until
everyone on earth hates them."

In short, they are going to hell.

So, I'm dating a lady semi-seriously for the first time in a long time.

I love the time we spend together, but... she has NEVER been ready on time for a date. I mean, twice she has pushed our agreed meeting time back over an hour (once I went, the next time I canceled). Fifteen minutes late is the EARLIEST she's ever made it. I don't know what it is, it's crazy. I think she's just the most disorganized person I've ever met. When I see her we have a great time and she gives me her undivided attention, but the waiting is annoying. I have to decide if I'm willing to put up with this one flaw, since everything else about her is pretty great.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Rev, arrive a half-hour after the time you set up. If she's not there, you'll have cut down your waiting time, and if she is, well, then for a change she's waited on you. :-)

Just a suggestion, but if you like her and see a future, why not discuss with her how it bothers you that she's been late so often? Not only may this correct the issue and take some of the building annoyance away by bringing the situation into the open, but you can tell a lot about someone from how he or she takes gentle criticism like that. Good luck!

My wife is has a chronic aversion to punctuality.  I, on the other hand, left to my own devices, arrive 30 minutes early for everything.
Yet somehow we've made it nearly 30 years without killing each other!

My wife watched in silence till the "Claw" made it's first appearance on the screen, her reaction was "Awww S**t", then she went to the laptop and played Texas hold 'em on line for the rest of the afternoon and into the evening.
Since then I've suggested several movies to watch, the last one was "Burn After Reading", her response is always "you go ahead I'll be there in a bit." I'm afraid that after 40 odd years of "B" movies I may have finally alienated her.

Oh I bet she feels awful about being late!  I'm late all the time too... well really just in the mornings, but once I get started I'm pretty much on time for everything else the rest of the day.  I feel terrible about being late though!  No matter how hard I try or how early I get up, I'm always 15 to 30 minutes late for work almost every day.  Sometimes I get caught up in getting dressed, other times I have hair trouble, and sometimes I just have to poop at a bad time.  Don't be too tough on her!  Maybe she's just taking forever trying to get all gussied up for you!  I probably would!
