Watching alittle WWE wrestling tonight. They had a spot for a new RIC FLAIR DVD. It looks really good. Since Vince McMahan owns all the old footage of WWF, NWA (mid-atlantic/georgia), WCW, and ECW. They seem to have put together one of the best DVD collection anywhere. It has three disk of the history of Ric Flair. The DVD shows the old matches against Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk, Sting, and more, and even his first appearence in Madison Square Garden. This is probably going to be a great DVD set.

I watch WWE whenever I get the chance and always watched the old WWF from the 80's.

All I can say about Flair is  UUGH!
I could never put my finger on why I disliked him....I just always have throughout all these years.
I'll definitely have to take a p**s er..I mean pass on this DVD.  (Hehe!  Just kidding)

I have to disagree with ASHTHECAT on this one. For literally months now I've been anticipating the release of the Ric Flair DVD while never really being a big fan of his, the simple reason for this is that this DVD contains some classic WRESTLING that cannot be found anywhere else in top notch quality. Such matches as the entire Royal Rumble '92 and Flairs early matches with a vastly different looking and acting Flair from those familiar with the 80's and 90's Flair should appease all those that have disliked Flair for at least the last 15 years.

That's just it. The classic matches are what real wrestling fans seek out. Flair in his early days was great. Flair in the last 15 years leaves much to be desired, but ASH you might like the old footage. When you watch an old match you can "feel" the match so much more than todays star acrobats matches. Also some of the old studio interviews. You also had TV studio matches. The regional promotions use to run their shows from TV studios. Once I even see a match from a small airport hanger or barn of sorts.

Terry Funk once fought a match in an empty arena. I think Mick Foley and The Rock tried to copy this idea once. Funk was Foleys mentor. The dark age of the sport is what true fans look for.

My Wrestling Hall of Fame. My favorite all time wresters were:

Masked Superstar
Kevin Sullivan
Greg Valentine
The Great Kabuki (with Gary Hart)
Bruiser Brody
Abdullah the Butcher
Stan Hanson
Fabulous Freebirds
Ric Flair (early days)
Road Warriors (early days)
Mark Lewin
Jimmy Snuka (bad guy days)
Don "The Magnificent" Muraco
Superstar Graham (pre-bald days)
The Spoiler
The Assassins
The Samoans (Afa and Sika)
Mr. Saito and Mr. Fuji
The Minesota Wrecking Crew (Gene and Ole Anderson)

It's been said that Flair could have a match with a broom and make it work.  I've heard different things about the DVD set...I might pick it up at some point, but my favorite so far have been the collections of his promos and interviews.

Scott, there are some great sites out there dedicated to classic wrestling, have you heard of Kayfabe Memories?  I also discovered one dedicated to Mid-Atlantic wrestling that has some great stories from "heel fans" who made signs so funny that the wrestlers would crack up during the matches.

BTW, I read further...people seem to like the new DVD set, but a lot of Flair's stuff from the late Seventies isn't on it---which is generally considered to be Flair's best period.  A lot of fans are assuming the stuff must just not be out there since there's plenty of stuff from Flair's Eighties work.

Thank jmc for the web info. I've been to a couple good ones. Can't remember the name of the sites at this time. They have great stories from old time wrestlers. The stories had me cracking up. Some sites have clips of vintage matches like The Funk's versus The Shiek and Abdullah the Butcher.

I bet the footage from late 70's exist somewhere. It may just not be in very good shape to put on a exclusive WWE product.

Anyone ever see I WANT TO HURT SOMEONE? Great little wrestling movie starring Dusty Rhodes, Andre the Giant, The Shiek, Abdullah the Butcher, and the Funks from a Detroit promotion.

Last year I bought the film THE WRESTLER with alot of AWA stars from the 70's including a non-blonde Ric Flair eating dinner with Verne Gagne.

Speaking of good wrestling sites, for those who don't know www.highspots.com sells a lot of old wrestling tapes and DVD's, look under the gold section. The prices are also pretty good there.
