Chopper2:

I have HOUSE OF WHIPCORD on DVD. I also have another PETE WALKER movie called FRIGHTMARE (not to be confuse with a more recent movie of the same name), which is much better than HOUSE OF WHIPCORD.

Pete Walker actually made several horror/thrillers in England during the 1970s. One that is supposedly very good is THE CONFESSIONAL (I have never seen it).

I believe that Walker was a moderately successful director in his genre during the 70s. I'm not sure whatever became of him.

Darn! I had forgotten about wsimd.

Anyway, Scott, here are some more movies that utilize the whip.

10 Commandments
Ben Hur
Zorro, the Gay Blade

And one film definitely not about whips.
Bullwhip Griffin w/ Roiddy McDowell in the title role.

As for Burgomaster's inquiry about British director Pete Walker, his last film was apparently a straight-to-video musical called "Chess" in 1992. Before that, his last theatrical film was "The House of Long Shadows" w/ Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and John Carradine, which I beleive has been discussed previously on this board.

Thanks JohnL. I think that web site says it all. :) Well I think John ended this question.

Many great entries here about the whip. I've seen HOUSE OF WHIPCORD and FRIGHTMARE and like them both very much.

I noticed the STORY OF "O" and ORGY OF THE DEAD are on that site.

By the way CAPTAIN BLOOD was on last night. Great movie with a few whippings.

Well, it doesn't really cover whip fights and such. :)

Andrew mentioned sword and sandal flicks, the whip is also usually featured in seagoing epics like Mutiny on the Bounty, Little Bill used a whip a few times in Unforgiven, I seem to remember quite a few whip-thrashings in Roots and Mandingo.  In The Sea Hawk(1940) Flynn and company are whipped while serving as galley slaves.

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.

Hysterical scene where the "kinky couple" are in their room in the motel, and while the guy is in the bathroom putting his unmentionables on, the girl is out in the bedroom area cracking her whip all over the place, destroying one object after another.

The Universal horror classic.....the scene where the gypsy king starts laying in on Ilonka (Elena Verdugo) with his whip, beating the crap outta her, until the hunchbacked Daniel (J. Carrol Naish) leaps to her rescue and starts beating the crap outta HIM!

Oh, of course....later on, in a fit of rage, Daniel starts beating on the Frankenstein monster, but of course he's using a laboratory strap. Still, I refer to this one as the film in which "almost everyone gets beaten!"

In the 1926 Greta Garbo vehicle The Temptress, there's a brutal whip fight sequence between hero Manuel Robledo (Antonio Moreno) and bad guy Manos Duras (Roy D'Arcy).  Two bare-chested men whip the crap out of each other in front of a crowd of spectators while a band plays music!  It's a silent movie, but I always imagine them playing Tom Lehrer's "Masochism Tango."

Thai action film Tom Yum Goong, aka The Protector thanks to stupid US marketing decisions, incorporates a whip in the final fight scene.

The originator of this thread is likely no longer reading it, but just in case...

In The Wicked Lady, Faye Dunaway and Marina Sirtis have a NSFW whip fight.
