He said that there had been some "law enforcement actions" that had been started in my name and that if I didn't call him back right away I'd be in a "legal mess."

Yeah.  It's a scam.

Quote"This is Eileen Fernandez with the department of legal affairs at U.S. Treasury. This is a notification for Tony in regards to some enforcement actions that have been started on your name. This is a notification for Tony in regards to some enforcement actions that have been started on your name. If for any reason you are busy to call back, I would suggest you to have your retain attorney do it for you. Constantly avoiding us might end up into a legal mess for you. I hope you will take the time and call me back. Until then have a blessed day and God bless you, " said the caller.

Cesare immediately reported the caller to the Treasury Department. They confirmed it was fraudulent.

"The Treasury Department does not send unsolicited request and does not seek personal or financial information from members of the public by e-mail or phone," said an email from the Treasury Department.

Earle called the number several times, but could never get through.

I didn't call him back.  I've reported him to the sheriff, Treasury Dept, and CenturyLink.  I also briefly considering letting animal control and the water department know too.

If this clown did call back I'd be sorely tempted to engage him in some conversation regarding his parentage, ancestry, reproductive proclivities, and ultimate destination.  Sorely, I tell you.  However I'm a bit too nice to do something like that.

I stopped answering the landline altogether at this point.

If we don't know who it is we don't generally answer the phone.  We just let the answering machine do its thing then.

Sorry that I didn't call back: I ran out of airtime, Sprite.

Seriously, I would make this person's ears bleed with my profanity.  :tongueout:

There's a scam like that for the IRS as well - they call you up and say they're filing lawsuits against you for unpaid taxes.  This is what they call "humanity".  Ugh.

If this clown does call back, make a straight man of him/her. Go all 'old cat lady person' on 'em, and see how long you can keep them on the line. Waste their time!
