In this film, we get Rock Hudson as the outcome of extreme plastic surgery. We got a Bacchian wine festival, complete with drugged-out, naked hippies. We got psychological suspense out the yin-yang, and a creepy title sequence. What's not to love? This film is like the exact opposite of "Agency"-while that film was (if unintentionally) campy and even funny at times, this one is deadly serious and depressing as hell. Don't watch it if you're in an MST3K mood.

The Burgomaster

I bought this DVD a few months ago.  EXTREMELY surreal stuff.  And the ending may cause you to lose at least one night of sleep.  Definitely an unusual role for Rock Hudson.  Highly recommended.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

One of John Frankenheimer's best--among The Manchurian Candidate,  Birdman of Alcatraz, The Iceman Cometh.  This one pops up on local channels at 1 or 2 am in my area, and Goddam if I'm a slug at work the next day.  One hell of a nightmare of second chances gone bad.

Some people like cupcakes better--I for one care less for them

You can't make a movie like that anymore, that's for sure

The Burgomaster

If they made this movie today, they would probably make a sequel called:

SECONDS, PART 2: THIRDS

It would be directed by Albert Pyun and would go direct to video.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."
