I was digging through an old dusty pile of VHS tapes the other day and discovered "Santa Clause the Movie" among them.
I had forgotten that I even had it.

Well I popped it in and watched it.
I hadn't seen this one in years and I was pleasantly suprised that I still do enjoy it.

Yes it is kind of cheesy at times but that's the beauty of it.
The campy performances of some of the actors like Dudley Moore & especially John Lithgow's over the top performance as the vile B.Z. were great.
David Huddleston was a perfect choice to play Santa.

What do you think of this movie?

I kinda liked this film, can't figure out why it bit the christmas dust and never gets aired around the holiday's. Maybe it was too close to reality - commercializing christmas!

>>>The second half moves into the modern era, in which Patch, the head elf, strikes out on his own and falls in with an evil toy manufacturer who wants to corner the market and eliminate Santa Claus.<<<

evil manufacturer...aka Corporate america

Gotta love john lithgow tho ;-)

I haven't seen it, but wasn't it considered really expensive for its time?  I vaguely remember something like that being reported when they were making it.

I imagine the main reason they don't play it more is because it bombed, and it's since been replaced by all the holiday films that have been released since then.
But you'd think they'd try to play it more to attempt to recoup some of the losses.
