Ah, Troll. I remember when I discovered it on this site years ago I made it my mission to nab a copy. Funnily enough, it arrived in my possession via as a Christmas gift. For a while, I had sort of a love/hate relationship with this movie. At the time I enjoyed the creature FX and the music, but really despised the acting. That was years ago.

I rewatched it a few days ago and my opinion has somewhat changed. Certainly, some of the acting is downright wooden (particularly Noah Hathaway as Harry Potter Jr.) but some of the other characters are interesting in a goofy/surreal kinda fashion. Concerning the creature FX, Torok, The Demon thing that represents the "heart" of Torok's world and the cocoon transformation are well made. The other puppets....well I can certainly see that most of the monster budget went into the former mentioned three.

The big noticeable aspect is that the movie is very confused in what it wants to be. It tries to be scary, but it fails. It tries to be funny, and the jokes fall flat on their faces. It tries to be a kid's movie, and it comes across as creepy.

Overall, not the worst B-Movie I've seen but there's much better out there. Troll is a bit of a disaster, but it is an entertaining one.

zombie no.one

I find it amusing the kid is called Harry Potter, lol
