FORBIDDEN PLANET was essentially a remake of Shakespeare's play THE TEMPEST (which I'm sure was done as a film sometime in the past before FP).

WEST SIDE STORY was also a Shakespeare remake....of ROMEO AND JULIET.

"Mein Führer! I can walk!!"

They're going to remake Willy Wonka (like that needs to be done)
I wonder what genre they'll place it in - i doubt if it will remain a musical. Anyone know the scoop on this?

I bet remaking mary poppins is next

Susan:

Wasn't Michael Jackson supposed to play Willy Wonka?  I think his chances of getting the part are pretty slim now . . .

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Regarding the Seven Samurai, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Disney's Bug's Life.

Some people like cupcakes better--I for one care less for them

The idea of him on the boat singing .....

"NOT A SPECK OF LIGHT IS SHOWING
SO THE DANGER MUST BE GROWING
ARE THE FIRES OF HELL A GLOWING?
IS THE GRISLY REAPER MOWING?
YES! THE DANGER MUST BE GROWING
FOR THE ROWERS KEEP ON ROWING
AND THEY'RE CERTAINLY NOT SHOWING
ANY SIGNS THAT THEY ARE SLOWING!
"

Chills my friend, chills

Why do they have to remake it? I know some people worship Tim Burton and Depp is in the lead now but i'd rather see a parody...something like...
Willy Wonka and the...sweatshop factory

yeah - that's the ticket!

"The Dirty Dozen" (war epic./adventure) remade as "Mankillers" (really, really bad cops and robbers type adventure).

The genre may not have switched much, but the quality sure did.

Professor Hathaway:  I noticed you stopped stuttering.
Bodie:      I've been giving myself shock treatments.
Professor Hathaway: Up the voltage.

"Mary Poppins" is being remade. Not so much remade, as being brought to another format. "Mary Poppins: the Musical," based on the Disney film is opening on the London (U.K.) stage sometime next year. But, back to our topic. I just saw a Muppet version of "It's a Wonderful Life" w/ Kermit in the Jimmy Stewart role. Actually, I think there are only two Christmas films or variations, thereof: "A Christmas Carol" and "It's a Wonderful Life."

Timothy, the talking duck

Hitchcock's Rear Window (incredible suspense) remade in Christopher Reeves' rear Window (just plan awful movie)
