I am in a political mood today, so my random thoughts are these....

Whatever else might be said of the man, I've never heard a candidate more slandered by liars than Donald Trump.

"He's never denounced the KKK!"

Actually he's denounced it publicly more than forty times in the last month, and never once has he endorsed it. What sane candidate would? And besides, the KKK is an anti-Republican Democrat-founded group, so why should a Republican be concerned with it? And I bet the KKK has 5,000 members at best, it holds zero political sway, so what does that has-been group of fools matter in a society aiming for post-racial inclusiveness? When my grandma was little the KKK put a headless crow in her family's mailbox with a note that said "Kathliks get out", not liking Papists living around their rural Protestant paradise, I gather, and even then eighty years ago, the group was laughed off by them as a joke, so it's even more of a joke in 2016.

"Trump's a racist!"

Based on what? Has he ever said anything "racist?" If so someone shoot me a link.

The list could go on and on. There are plenty of legitimately questionable things Trump has bombastically said that voters can judge him on, so why do people have to lie?

This election feels very dirty.

Probably should keep that kind of thing in the Presidential election thread. Why don't we quarantine the political talk there? We don't want these arguments spilling onto the main boards.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Politics, racism, class warfare, etc....
When the lies, name calling, exaggerated rumors, misconceptions, etc. bubble up, I try to get this hashtag started; #SaidTheGnatToTheGnu

It's a reference to this:
"How absurd, said the gnat to the gnu, To spell your queer name as you do! For the matter of that, Said the gnu to the gnat, That's just as I feel about you." - Oliver Herford

I was thinking earlier of this local woman (and I am sorry I cannot think of her name) who I believe lived from 1888--2001. 113 years. She was there for every single day of the twentieth century, and could boast of having lived in three different centuries. Her mind stayed clear and she told about the turn of the 20th century, of getting out of school to go see soldiers boarding trains to go to the Spanish-American War, of knowing her own great-uncle, who fought in the War of 1812, and even of one of her earliest memories, which was nearly being run over by a delivery man's horse when she was four. A premature death that'd been. On one of her birthdays, the 110th, as I remember, the Mayor made it her day in the city of Deer Park, Ohio, and in the nursing home she was in they had a parade up Galbraith Road (well, I guess Galbraith Road doesn't mean anything to you guys but it's a major east-west road...) and she was able to wave and say thank you to those who turned out. Just...wow. A shame she didn't keep a diary.

I once tried to write a really dark, dystopian retelling of The Ballad Of Jed Clampett... These danged misanthropic hippies didn't get it.
