What happened?  The site was down for a day...

Almost two days.  I talked to Trevor on FB, and somehow word spread, Andrew was notified, and here we are again.

That was a little scary, cause I realized if the site did go down for an extended period (for whatever reason), I'd have no way to get ahold of anyone here.

Almost certainly a problem with the webhost. This used to happen to my site often until I changed hosts.

No idea, I haven't spoken to him. I could not get hold of him by email or Facebook. Without checking, the domain is registered until July of next year. If I understand the story correctly, Newt was able to get hold of his wife Katy through a badmovies FB group I am not part of, and she told Andrew the site was down.

I just figured it was a delayed Y2K reaction.

This scared the sh*t out of me: as far as I recall, the site had only gone down once before. I thought I was never going to be able to talk to any of you ever again as I though the site had crashed permanently: thankfully, not the case.
