I pretty much agree with clockwork that the original film is far away the best and should probably have never had any sequel. That said, of the sequels, I actually prefer the original run although I kind of like elements of H2O as well.  I loathe the Zombie remake - felt it was utter trash that explained way too much...

With regards to ranking the ones I've seen...haven't seen Zombie's second film...it would probably be

1) original (far and away better than all the rest)
2) II (just for the originality of the killings and suspense of Jamie Lee being stalked through a hospital)
3) IV
4) H2O
5) III (not really in the series but more entertaining than most of the other films)
6) V
7) VI
8) Resurrection
9) Halloween Zombie remake

No matter how you rate them I think it's still a good series overall. I'd say out of all of them 2 is a little underrated.
