Lol, don't worry about it. I am just not aware of this DMX person and I think its pretty funny that we all thought it was something real.

"X Gonna Give It To Ya" is actually a really good song, and this is from a guy who's not into much modern rap music.

If you've seen the movies Cradle 2 the Grave or Deadpool, you'll probably recognize the song...

Ahh I feel terrible now.  I meant the whole post as a joke.  Start with a serious (and believable sounding) story then go into the DMX songs lyrics ( I admit I kind of borrowed the idea from another post I saw about a guy getting a special delivery option that gave him his package in 10 minutes after ordering it), but I was thinking about the lyric "no matter how many cats I break bread with" and that reminded me of a time back when I was in Junior High when my stepbro and I would feed pieces of bread to one of our neighbors cats.  So this popped in my head.  I figured once everyone got to the lyrics they'd realize it was a goof and we'd all have a good laugh.
For the record, no, I'm not feeding any strays don't think off-hand there are any strays nearby.

Sorry for any confusion/arguments started.   :bluesad:

For once we agree.

Seriously, I have six feral cats at our archives building which my mentor and I feed daily: hungry little buggers.

Hey, AoT, maybe you should post a disclaimer: "No cats were actually harmed in the telling of this JOKE."

You're kind.  And maybe stepping into it.  My friend here warned us, but I took him to task after writing some of my best bits in years.  My friend and I often spar here, and I love him (because we can do that).  But, I learned that the original post was HORSE HOCKEY.  My friend was right.  It made me notice things I don't think about.  Like who gives who karma.  I realized karma is like facebook "likes".  As my friend, that same friend, said years ago, it's a popularity contest.  I have long liked the karma system as a wonderful resource of history.  Karma I have long looked at, but hardly everybody's, mostly my own.  I am a dog with a bone.  Gimme history any day.  Today, I looked at who gave who karma.  It's hardly a payback system, but it is a popularity contest.  I'm intrigued.

i am a crazy catlady, i freely admit that. i gave YOU good karma because you gave sound advice to what you thought was a serious post. i gave the OP good karma because i believe the apology WAS sincere.
i don't give a whole lot of good or bad karma points here, in 10+ years i may have given out a hundred or so all told.to me, it has nothing to do with popularity, it is all about the content of the post. i THOUGHT that was how the system was supposed to work here, who cares about facebook?

Alex

Sometimes I give karma because I like a post (in fact my most often reason), sometimes I give karma when I think someone is having a bad day and I hope in some small way it cheers them up a little to know someone is thinking positive thoughts about them (third most common reason for me), or if I think someone is being an ass to someone else and I want to say, hey don't worry smile and be happy (second most common reason). I very rarely give negative karma (3 occasions so far, and two of those were to spammers), but that would be my fourth most common reason I guess.

I have noticed I tend to give karma most often to certain people, but then they are also the ones I most often chat to about various things outside of just posting on the forums themselves so I find that quite a natural thing.

Ultimately though karma only means as much to anyone as they want it to. Does any positive karma I send out really make anyone feel any better, or if I give negative ones out, would someone stop and think 'Hmm, should I reconsider my approach on things?' I really have no idea. Mostly I give them for fun and hope they are taken that way by the receiver.

I was on FB for many years and quit in early 2017 because of a stalker I had on there: the thing that made me leave was not the stalker, but two lifelong friends who turned on me because I dared to criticize "the children of Nelson Mandela" - i.e. our disastrous national cricket team. I would never criticize Mr Mandela at all but the cricket team: yikes.
