Great entry in the James Bond series.

If you mean gun yes I agree.  I thought Francisco scaramanga was one of the few bond villains what was somewhat 3 dimensional.  Most bond villain's have to work at being one dimensional,  but Lee made his bond villain nearly 3d.

I love how they threw the entire book out the window and created an completely new plot and characters.

* Movie - Island lair with a funhouse and a solar weapon. Dwarf assistant. Sleek gun that can be disassembled.

* Book - Villain concocting a property swindle. No dwarf assistant. No island lair. Regular pistol, except it's gold. Climax takes place on a train.

If it's The Man With The Golden Bum, would the other movie be Brownfinger? 

MWTGG is my favourite of the old school James Bond movies, because it was hella fun to watch as a kid, and as an adult it's so kitsch and obviously derivative of the kung fu craze of that era, just like Live And Let Die was a blaxploitation movie, but with Haitians.  When I visited Hong Kong about five years ago, that movie was part of the inflight entertainment, so I watched it to get in the mood.  Nothing like seeing 70's Hong Kong on screen.  And Britt Ekland is one of the most gorgeous of the Bond girls.

The novel has been sitting on the shelf for a few years, but I have yet to read it.

You should read them in chronological order. I bought the boxed set several years ago and read them all. It was a great experience. I think MOONRAKER, which I rate in the lower echelon of Bond movies, is in the top 3 or 4 novels. That one really surprised me. Then there are a few like OCTOp***y and QUANTUM OF SOLACE (both short stories) that don't resemble the movies at all . . . only the titles are the same.
