A lady I have known and been friends with for 25+ years had a son.  He was seriously ill, and expected to expire in coming months.  He fell down the stairs last night and died at the hospital.   Today is Jay's 70th birthday.  He was a Rock musician, long-haired grandfather pothead.  I always liked him.

I am sorry for your loss . . . and that is an awful way to go!

I hope he lost consciousness quickly and thus minimized his suffering.

It's not my loss.  You are kind, both of you.  I liked him, knew him for decades, but he wasn't my friend.  It's like the man who was murdered a few weeks ago.  Except this guy, I kind of knew him.  I like him.  Once again, life is surprising.

I'm sorry someone who touched your life died.  Even if you weren't friends per se that always leaves a hole. :bluesad:

Man, so many people I went to school with, and members of my family, have died in bad ways.
It's never easy- it always f**ks me up. I never get hard to it.
It reminds you- that's gonna be me-or my brother (been through that).
It eats me every time it happens. I'm sorry.
