James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 as well as scripot writer for Tromeo and Juliet and Scooby Doo 2 was just let go by Disney.  he will no longer be involved in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Why?

Because years ago, long before they hired him for Guardians of the Galaxy 1, he made a bunch of offensive comments on twitter, comments he admits making for jokes and shock value.  After he was hired, he apologized and changed his attitude and hasn't said anything like this since.

And now people have found them, made a huge deal about it and Disney says it doesn't want to be associated with that kind of attitude.  So now he's getting fired for something he did years ago that he's apologized for since, and wasn't even a big deal when he was hired.

The moral of this story?  Don't use twitter.  Ever.

Also this probably blows our chances of seeing Mark Hammil in Guardians 3.  Gunn and Hammil lived close to each other and talked about ti a few times.

CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/20/entertainment/james-gunn-exits-guardians-of-the-galaxy-3/index.html He made jokes about pedophilia, for shock value. Since then, he's mellowed & tries to focus on things which promote love.

BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44912175 Some actors who've worked with Gunn are defending him. Others on social media see his old actions as indefensible.

Which translates to "If you ever did anything bad, don't bother trying to apologize or be a better person later.  You can never improve and you will never be forgive for it."

ever since Stern went off the regular air in 2005 something has changed.

Trevor

I'm left wondering if James Gunn was dropped from Guardians 3 for this, why is Trevor Noah still employed? Something's not right here.
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.

Not defending his old comments, but he did something wrong as a younger man, apologised for what he'd said long before this broke as big news. Seems a bit unfair to me, but I also understand why the decision was made to give him the boot as much as I disagree with it.

people need to lay off entertainers.

trevor - two wrongs don't make a right. comedians are programmed to say edgy stuff cuz thats whats funny. obviously you can't go aroundsaying this stuff in life, but we need to give these guys some slack I feel

Sooooo,  a studio founded by a racist anti-semite who supported uncle 'dolf early on fires a guy who made some racist tweets years ago and apologized for it.  I wonder when they will officially banish old Walt from their history....

what is this thing with firing people? it's like some gross caricature of community standards. what happened to if you don't like something turn the channel

They're afraid people will turn the channel.

As for Disney... Most historians reject the idea he was a Nazi supporter.

Fairly good discussion here: https://skeptoid.com/blog/2013/07/04/was-walt-disney-an-anti-semite/ The author concluded that Disney may have been slightly anti-semantic in his early years, but he wasn't discriminatory, & he changed over time. The author also points out comedy based on race/ethnicity was common in the early 20th century; even a studio owned by Jews (Warner Bros.) used ethnic gags.

Most historians being ones who might fear a visit from a lawyer wearing a mickey mouse tie clip.

There's quite a bit of evidence that ol' walt was something of a fascist. and he did support nazism in the early days before he was paid big bucks to do anti nazi cartoons.

I swear, Twitter is cancer. How many careers has it wrecked/killed now?

But Walt Disney did fire some one for making an antisemitic comment:

QuoteRobert Sherman was a Jewish-American composer who worked with his brother Richard to compose some of the most memorable Disney songs of all time including the music for the film Mary Poppins.

He shared the following story: "One time, [my brother] Richard and I overheard a discussion between Walt and one of his lawyers. This attorney was a real bad guy, didn't like minorities. He said something about Richard and me, and he called us 'these Jew boys writing these songs.' Well, Walt defended us, and he fired the lawyer."

Under Walt, many people of the Jewish faith held positions of authority at Walt Disney Productions including Marty Sklar, Kay Kamen, Richard Fleischer, David Swift, Harry Tyle, Sid Miller and dozens more.

"I can say that in extensive casting and personnel decisions, I never saw Walt being anti-Semitic. Too, I never even heard Walt make an anti-Semitic remark. Over the years, I've been amazed at how many different men Walt 'really was' as told by those who knew very little about him," wrote producer Harry Tytle.
