Question About TV Cameras/Production.

I have asked about this before and I still don't get it. Even reading about it online and looking up examples on YouTube hasn't made it clear for me, but what advantages lie in multi-camera versus single-camera production of a TV series? The Big Bang Theory is single-camera and off-hand I can't see it looks different than other shows listed as multi-cam.

Anyone feel like taking a swing at this topic and maybe finally getting through to me, because I honestly just don't get this at all.

Multi-cam series can be filmed faster, since you can get closeups & long shots at the same time.

Single-cam series allow the DP to set up exactly the right lighting for each shot.

Had no idea Big Bang was single cam; it's lazy single-cam if what you read is correct.
