Ghosts wouldn't necessarily prove life after death, since the ethyric body is part of a physical form and degrades with time as the body decays, hence the "half-life" of hauntings. Ghosts are also not always in possession of consciousness and may represent nothing more than a scene from life projected against time, echoing, an impression in the fabric of reality like a boot print in mud.

Also many cultures teach that every life form has multiple souls (termed by some as an astral soul, ethyric soul, incarnate soul, etc.) and the fact one soul remains earthbound does not indicate post-death survival, only a continuation independent of  embodiment, since not all souls are attached to the body and were never alive to begin with, only visible to outsiders under some conditions.
