The really horrible thing about this ad was at the time it was ran people in the south were  dying of vitamin deficiency related illnesses.

This ad was from 1921. I doubt your childhood goes back that far.  It was the doscovery a lot of people in some parts of america we're dying of vitamin deficiency lead to standards like the RDA for vitamins,  minerals,  etc.

I don't remember much about it (It was the early '70s, and I was very little), I just remember my doctor told my mom to stop giving me milk, cola, and Flintstone vitamins, and she started giving me Cream Of Wheat for breakfast............

By the 70's CoW likely had some vitamins added to make it healthier,  and having it for breakfast isn't bad as long as you get your essentials in other meals.
