Hopefully it will be at least as good as the SFC version...

Not my fault you have a dirty mind and don't know dune terminology.

What does it have to do with Dune?

It means my browser didn't save the link I selected.  The right one is there now.  Dammit.

Villeneuve is a good director, so he may be able to handle DUNE, as long as the studio learned its lessons from their last attempt.

Dune is such a difficult property to bring to the screen because the underlying themes are not easy to portray in an entertaining way.

How does a scriptwriter show that the Bene Gesserit are a quasi-religious order that works behind the scenes to influence society? How does a movie convey the scope and reach of royal families that control planets and areas of space, or introduce groups like the Bene Tleilax who have mastered genetic engineering to the point where they create anything buyers want, on demand, while subscribing to a deep religious faith that they keep hidden from the rest of the races?

I've seen Lynch's Dune numerous times but never felt it really hit the mark. There are deep themes of political intrigue, social control, religion, and 'plans within plans' that would bore many viewers. But if 2049 is anything to go by, Denis won't make a movie for everyone. He'll do it the way he wants.
