I've been interested in old discount stores for awhile, so here's a thread for them. Share pictures, stories, videos, whatever.

I'm particularly interested in Gibson's Discount Centers, a large chain from the 60's/70's which collapsed in the 80's. (A few stores lasted till 2002; I think one or two franchises are still open in Texas.) I've tried to find some of their old TV commercials, but haven't been able to so far. Does anyone have any? I think they were already declining in the early 70's, so they might've predated home video.

In my neck of the woods we had TOM PETERSON discount hardware stores.  The guy was a fixture of the Pacific Northwest.  His ads were heavy on the cheese and he had all sorts of silly promotional stuff like free haircuts like his, free clocks (with Tom's face on them, natch), a little trolley ride around the parking lot for the kids, etc.  Rest in peace, Tom; ya silver tongued devil!

STEREO SUPER STORES
This was a mistake by the above Tom Peterson-- against the advice of his wife Gloria, he bought up the local electronics chain and they quickly went underground.  Tom nicknamed them "Stereo Stupid Stores", and renamed his own business "Tom Peterson's And Gloria's Too" and said in his commercials, "From now on I'm listening to my wife!".

The Burgomaster

There was a local store called "Arcade Bazaar" in Revere, Massachusetts (a few miles from where I grew up). They sold just about everything. I think they sold a lot of factory rejects and stuff they bought from stores that were going out of business.
