I know there's a lot of cheesy 80s horror flicks out there and it's pretty much impossible for anyone to have seen them all but I discovered a little gem that I had never even heard of before this.

Look at that cover.  This is the kind of movie you rent for the cover alone.

The movie is very low budget with unimpressive effects and actors that aren't the best, but there's a lot of cheesy charm and originality in the movie.  it's also an anthology movie which makes it all the sweeter.

With no more horror movies the devil decides to make a woman that's never written anything in her life write a new horror movie.  That's about as much explanation as that gets, but it's the main plot.  The devil has been giving her nightmares to inspire her, but she can never remember them when she wakes up.

This alone would be enough setup for most anthologies, but she ALSO goes on a camping trip with her friends (and the devil kills her husband and takes his place) and THEY all share their scariest stories.

The stories are an interesting mix as well.  Besides a brief scene where she's being hunted by the demon in her office, we get a Twlight Zone-ish story about a couple that receives a book that has their entire lives written in it.  There's a Groundhog's day-ish story about a con that gets caught up in a loop of betrayal and murder, and a SAW like story of a critic that gets captured by a mad man and forced to play in his murderous maze.  I say SAW-like, but replace the torture-porn with more of a gameshow-ish cheese.

The wraparound plot doesn't make a lot of sense, there's not a lot of gore (although the acid to the face is rather nasty), and no real nudity so it does feel a bit tame at times, but it's a fun flick.

And again, that cover.  How do you NOT like that cover?

The only  thing wrong  with that cover is the demons eyes don't flash red LEDs when someone presses an O in Hollywood.

I do kinda like the look on the woman's face,  it's  like "Oh, not another one of these... " I guess running into annoying devils and demons in Hollywood is kinda common.

And here is proof that a VCR case can have LED eyes that light up when a button is pressed...  :tongueout:

I remember those Terror Eyes (and Crinoline Head) VHS ads in Fangoria. Back then I had no interest because it looked just bad. I did watch it once on youtube years ago but I don't remember much about it. Maybe I should revisit.
