Y'know,  i'm pretty certain I know what happened a few weeks before this movie was made.

Someone said "I can't believe it!  I took care of my uncle Ernie for the last couple years of his life and the cheap SOB leaves me 84 bucks in his will! What am I supposed to do with 84 bucks? I know!  I'll make a movie! "

Seriously, 84$ is possibly  a stretch here. The effects were worse than plan 9 from outer space. I mean sure they we're using desoto hubcaps for flying saucers but at least you  couldn't see thru them! Also the aliens could afford to have lower legs and feet.

The mysogany was certainly high budget. We had a whopping 2 notable female characters,  one a clinging drunk dependent heiress,  the other a scheming vicious money hungry low rent bar whore happy to plot cold blooded murder for a buck.  Sorry,  ladies,  we have tried to drag ourselves up a little since then.

This is definitely a bad movie on all counts. Is it a fun bad movie?  Yes,  it's kinda fun,  the sheer badness of the effects makes for some fun, likewise the flat acting, the ludicrous script, laughable plot,  ad infinitum create a fun bad movie worthy of rifting thru the night.

The f**ked up part about it is, the director was Nathan Juran, who also did the 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD....!

He did his best work with Harryhausen, that's for sure. Not because HE was good- it's because Harryhausen was good. And he had better writers. He was more a work guy. " Do this do that" walk away. Leave it to the F/X people.

Classic case of the movie poster being a lot more interesting then the movie

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

oh well, i watched this some years back and while i love and adore AIP films they did a lot of really awful films and this was one of them. i have seen the (1993) HBO film with Daryll Hannah a number of times but not in years so i dunno what i'd think of it now,

but i love that version and saw that version 1st. it was also the 1st time i ever heard of this film at all when that first came out way back in 93 i think it was. this one the Original has decent FX for it's time. granted the FX i remember is of her being tall that's it that's how forgettable this film is!

anyways, this was painfully awful and you know what's really funny? if you watched the film Ruby that old (1977) with Piper Laurie and that one is a decent film to be fair. anyways, i watched that a few months back and in it, it takes place at a drive-through taking place in (1953) though the only film they could afford to show was this film and this was on what (1958) so they at least could have had the film take place than. sorry i'm nitpicking but that's just me lol.

what's even funnier is we were talking about this movie at work just yesterday i think it was? and the Argument i got from guys mind you was well she's good looking, my reply while that's true she's good looking but having a good looking women as it's star doesn't mean the film is actually any good cause it's awful

HBO did make a new version of this movie back in 1993.

And I have to say, its one of the few remakes that actually out does the original.

The main reason is that Nancy's change in stature does play a..*cough*  bigger part in the story.  In the original, Nancy spends most of her time after being enhanced asleep and only attacks in the final act of the film.  In the remake, she becomes a giantess much earlier on and interacts with the side characters a lot more.

The spfx are a lot better too.  Sure, some of the green screening and optical printing looks a little bit dated-but the model work and forced perspective shots  are well done and very effective.  They were even featured on Movie Magic  a Discovery channel show about SPFX-before everything was CGI

Also I read this about the original.  She didn't become a 50ft woman.  At all.  The very original script was more of noir-style crime thriller and only later became the iconic movie later because of the 1950's creature feature boom.  That's one of those rumors that sounds fake enough to be cynical about but also just real enough to be true.
