Cheesy with lots of CGI, walking around, nerdy scientist, bossy drill sergeant and a squad that doesn't get any lines until just before they become expendable...

Bug 1975.

B movie master William B. Castle's last movie and famous for that, bug features bizarre cockroaches that emerge form the depths of the earth when there is a serious earthquake and start fires with an innate pyrotechnical ability they possess. A scientist deduces this from the number of unexplained fires that occur during and after earthquakes thru history. Yeah, I guess knocked over candles, oil lamps, gas leaks, electrical shorts, etc, couldn't possibly explain them all. 99% of them, sure, BUT NOT ALL OF THEM!!!

For a brilliant scientist this guy sure does some dumb stuff.

No...that was the GIANT SPIDER INVASION (1975) There were no giant spiders in KINGDOM.
Fun fact: Alan (the Skipper!) Hale actually calls another character 'Little Buddy"!  :bouncegiggle:

My favorite 'giant bug' movie from the 50's is without a doubt TARANTULA (1955)

Empire of the  ants.

For once Joan Collins played the second biggest b-tch in a movie. The biggest was the queen ant.

I have to give "mimic'  kudos.  It was one of the only bug movies that acknowledged insects size is limited by their respitory system.

I've always really liked The Black Scorpion

Uhmm....no..I'm not talking about that one.

I'm talking about the 1957 black and white film that featured stop motion effects from the man behind King Kong-Willis O'Brien. (Although I've read different versions as too whether he actually did the effects or simply supervised.)

It also features the creatures from Kong's lost spider pit sequence.  I think its one of the reasons I like it so  much.  It actually has a great dark atmosphere on top of some great creature work.

Also because I am that person-I need to point out spiders and scorpions are arachnids-not insects.

Finally, how can we have this thread and not mention the queen of the monsters herself Mothra.

I finally picked up the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy and plan on watching it soon.

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

Do the giant snails in "the monster than challenged the world' count as bugs?

Say what you want to about his movie, the monster was above average in technical terms.

^- I dunno. But eh! I reckon it counts! It's a multi legged creepy crawly!

Uh,  I'm sorry, was there supposed to be something about a scorpion in this post?  All I could see were 2 thighs and a cleavage....
