How Many Beers....

....does it take you guys to feel tipsy? Or full-on drunk?

This was a discussion that came up today on the aforementioned field trip, and the answers I was hearing while it was discussed (I didn't start the topic there) were interesting for being higher than I would have thought.

Me, I guess I don't drink often enough to have tolerance, but I get merrier and feel the buzz in my eyes and temples after one glass of wine or a single beer. Two and I'm even more so, with three my coordination is off and I'm drunk. (So I usually do stop at two if I drink at all.) I remember one time when I was sixteen my cousin wanted to get me drunk for her amusement, I was innocent or dumb enough to fall into her trap, and I was out of control ripped after five beers, before someone took mercy and plugged the beer pipeline and rescued me.

Just curious about this, because I kept hearing "four or five drinks" today as the normal answer, and to me that sounds like a lot just to get tipsy.

I have no clue, believe it or not. I have not had a beer in over 30 years.

Three beers I start to get tipsy and go to bed. I drink often, but I haven't actually been drunk in years.

I've still never been drunk but I do occasionally have some mead or wine and after one or two sips I get flushed and feel like it's 20 degrees warmer in the room.  If I actually finish a glass I'm sleepy and a little dizzy ..is that tipsy?  I guess 1.

I have no clue since I don't drink beer that much. Now harder stuff like whiskey, absinthe, and the like I can. (it's about a 8 oz of absinthe and crushed ice, and 20 oz of whiskey when combined with 20 oz of Coke.)
yeah no.

Yeah, the flushing part happens to me too, Paq, I feel warm when I drink and it's not always pleasant. I also get  talkative. (And silly.) I'm told I'm amusing then but the funny thing is often when people are laughing at what I'm saying I'm trying to be serious.

Interesting. Where are you that you can get absinthe, if you don't mind me asking? The green genie was abundant in France and it showed up sometimes in Ireland but I've rarely seen the real stuff stateside.  Most people I know who have had it say the feeling is like being high on hashish and drunk on liquor at the same time. A few said it made them more violent than normal.

You realize a standard shot is 1.5-2 oz, right? You've got 14 shots in there! I hope it's for 3 people drinking it. (It does sound like an interesting recipe, though).

I have no idea.  I've sipped alcohol a few times in my life, but I find the taste nauseating, so I've never come close to finishing a drink.

I'm a teetotaler - except for an occasional beer shandy - so I've never been drunk or even slightly tipsy.  :drink:

I can get absinthe from the grocery store lol, as well as Chartreuse. I haven't tried the green fairy juice by itself yet, however for absinthe I haven't felt violent after drinking it; I'm more forced to eat something since absinthe is a licorice liqueur and it gets to you.

I can drink it all in a 3-5 hour timespan with some food to eat with it. Whiskey and Coke was what my parents said to try out when starting with mixed drinks.
yeah no.

I don't drink beer much, though I like it and prefer light beers.

I can remember one winter day about 12 years ago spending the afternoon with my brother who always drank a case of beer... a day!!!  BUDWEISER.  I drank 3 of them with him over the afternoon, then had a heavy Sunday meal he had prepared for the three of us.  Then I got in my car to drive home which took an hour.  I started falling asleep.  Blasted the radio, opened all the windows of the car, it was as if I was drugged!  It wasn't the booze, it was the carbs!

Until maybe 8 or 9 years ago I'd drink 2 to 4 beers a night. I decided to cut that down severely and started only drinking now and again. Months would pass between the times I'd drink. After about a year of this, I started suffering from gout. I figure I should just have kept on drinking.

I'm not sure . . . I usually did shots of Sambuca or something in between, so it's not easy to determine how much drunkenness was actually caused by the beer.

Although, the first time I went to Belgium I couldn't figure out why I started feeling great after only 3 beers. Then I realized the alcohol content was about 2.5 to 3 times higher than the average American beer.
