I was supposed to. But I didn't.
I did almost join the Army, though. They wanted me to be a tunnel rat. I backed out.
I wasn't scared- I just don't like people screaming at me.

I signed a sheet in High School with a recruiter. He came to my house later.
I said " I'm only 5'2"! He said- "That's OK! We'll put you in a tank! Or clearing tunnels!"
I didn't know what clearing tunnels was until years later when my Uncle Ron, who was in Vietnam and was a tunnel rat, told me. And I didn't want to be in a tank. I wanted to be able to run!
So I backed out. Didn't matter anyway. Their was no war going on in 1980.

Didn't have to register.  But they were recruiting heavily at my HS for Desert Storm.  I think I told them I just had one question about the recruiting process and they took that as me wanting to sign up.  Then they wouldn't leave me alone.  I was ticked and didn't return their calls.

No, but after the 9/11 attacks they understandably recruited at the college I attended at the time.

I didn't have to register because I had already done early enlistment by the time I turned 18.
I served four years in the U.S. Navy, from 1982 to 1986.
I survived swimming with jellyfish, Filipino food, being buzzed by Soviet MIGs, and a collision at sea.

As an American living in Germany I had to register at the U.S. Embassy in Munich when I turned 18.

I think so.  There hasn't been a draft in 45 years.

But registering for Selective Service (AKA, The Draft) was the law at least through the mid 1990s.

I registered for it when I was in high school circa 1986-87. I was told that if I didn't, they'd come looking for me and I certainly didn't want that.

With my bad eyesight and flat feet I never would've cut it in the armed forces. The only time they would've been desperate enough to draft me would have been in the enemy was on the George Washington Bridge headed for New Jersey.

I had flat feet, hammer toe, and a pretty long psychiatric history....

Well, it was almost certainly 40 years ago I registered for the draft, as required by law.  Of course, there was no draft.

Yes, but I drew a high number, and the War in Vietnam was winding down, so they did not need as many draftees as before, so I was never called up. I don't remember when the draft ended, but, I do know that there has been some talk of reviving it, with women, this time, also being elegible for it.
