sprite, my youngest niece has decided to become a lawyer too. she starts college in january and plans to become a paralegal first because she figures that's the way to figure out what field she'd choose to specialize in, if she does choose that. do you think that's a good idea? * she asked me to ask you and would likely take your advice since you've done so much of the schooling she'll have to do.*

That sounds like the exact same thing I do in HR except in my situation I can end it with "Why don't you go ask Legal?"

Sorry it took me so long but I didn't see this until just now.  Yes, I think that would be a good idea to become a paralegal first as it would give her some exposure to the legal field.  Having paralegal experience would help her with legal writing, which can be hard for people to get the hang of.  If she goes on to law school I'd recommend she keep an open mind about what she wants to do after school and passing the bar.  There are so many different areas of law one can go in to, such as from criminal law to real estate to business law to sports law.
