So judging by the self-promotion thread, a few of us here have our own youtube channels and subscribers to our content.  I bring this up because  because of Youtube's new policy inline with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA.  I'll link some video's below(for as long as they stay up).  But the short version is that you now have to declare whether or not your channel is kid friendly.  Unfortunately, youtube'ss algorithm might stlll see a video as something for kids, and the FTC could fine people as much as $42000 per violation.

This is a problem because subjects like animation, bright colors, crafts, video games are are practically  by default in youtube's rules classified as children's content, regardless of their actual age rating.

I am legitimately thinking of taking down my channel because I have a lot of cosplay and animation related material on it.

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

Yeah- they had a purge over here at Tumblr. My blog got deleted. The whole f**king thing I had up for 7 years. I had no porn at all. In fact, most of my dirtiest stuff was old sexploitation posters and lobby cards!
So I had to f**king contact them and say- " Why did you delete my blog?!? I had no porn in it!"
It was done by bots.
They reviewed it, and I got my blog back.
Now you have to either tippy toe around the rules- or just post wtf you want and see if they ban it. They miss a lot of s**t. I do the later.
Yet there is still porn all over the place.
Tumblr is run by morons.

From what I can gather COPPA is f**king over channels aimed at children. Y'know, the kinda things that run Peppa Pig 24/7.
I'm guessing this has to do with some of that Elsagate s**t where YouTube did nothing about videos aimed at kids that weren't ACTUALLY appropriate for kids.

It's worth noting that COPPA isn't a new thing. It's been around since '98. YouTube just got sued because they completely ignored its existence
and ran targeted ads on videos for children. So now they're pushing the responsibility of declaring if your content is child friendly or not onto YouTubers.

I'm not super worried about it. A friend of mine was concerned that this meant a new algorithm would auto-flag videos aimed at children and possibly take them down.
He had just gotten into the show Hazbin Hotel and was worried that YouTube was going to flag it as being child friendly just because it's a cartoon (It's not child friendly whatsoever).

It seems like as long as you set your videos to the appropriate setting it'll be fine. Although that kinda invokes imagery of Jews smearing sheep's blood on their doors so
God won't kill their first born son.

As far as I can tell infractions will be investigated by the FTC and not by YouTube itself. If the FTC doesn't see your video as breaking the rules they'll leave you alone.
But if you ARE trying to exploit children you will in deep s**t. So, I wouldn't get super worried about COPPA right now.

I just marked all my uploads as "not for kids" and forgot about it. Unless you're aiming your videos at kids, that's all you have to do.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...
