.... would you still choose to do it?

I say no way.

Hmmm........
And I was just thinking about this comedian who once said, "i'm at that age where it's 'food, sleep or sex?'... I dunno, lemme decide after I grab a bite & take a nap."

I believe I would on occasion.......

What about my medications, or the need to stay hydrated?
Would that count on a thread like this?

Because sometimes water just tastes good...
And sometimes my pills get stuck in my throat, & I need something solid to force them down....

Sometimes, free food is the only reason I go to certain places, bother with certain events or deal with certain people...

The greatest thing in life is food. If you're not eating you're not living.

Alex

I eat to live. If I didn't have to do it, it would freeze up so much more time for other things. Not having to shop, cook, clean the dishes etc would be quite liberating. I might occasionally eat (or drink) something I enjoyed the taste of, but if I could then I would be quite happy to live without it.

I've said it before but I question why we have to eat. It doesn't make sense and it's such a design flaw of God or oddity of evolution. Like Alex said if we did not have to be concerned with food we'd have so much more time in our lives, and we'd be able to do many more things. It's going to be one of my first questions if ever I get an audience with God: "Dude, why the eating thing?"

(Second will be: "Dude, why the law of diminishing returns thing?")

Eating makes me feel earthbound and going without eating can make me feel the opposite, like physically disconnected and spiritually open (not in a religious sense but like I am connecting with something otherworldly inside me). And early on I quit eating meat because it was truly like I could feel the death in meat. Not exaggerating, that's true.

But I know it's also dangerous to go too long without eating, and increasingly it makes my blood sugar plunge and I don't like how that feels. When I was a teenager I used to love to....I could say "fast" but more accurately "starve" and now I understand the high I'd get from the energy, it was coming from survival mode adrenaline connected to fight or flight, my body digging deep to give me energy to get past what it assumed was some crisis, and that's damaging, especially since I was an athlete and should have been concentrating on getting more calories, not radically less.

But the worst thing about doing that back then was how bad I'd feel when I finally did eat after going days without doing it. The post-starvation crash was hard, usually emotional  too, and I dreaded it so much I'd try to keep going, don't eat, don't eat, I'd think, because when you do you're going to feel sick. Yet of course eventually I'd have to, either on my own or my dad would figure out I was doing that again and use his psych-ops on me to get me to stop being so dumb.

The other day I was telling my eleven-year-old about the summer of 1994 and (leaving out why I did it----love is the devil in a young girl's life, I swear) going most of a week not eating, and walking around Lollapalooza with my cousin and her friends with my ears ringing and my heart beating too fast and telling them I just didn't want any of the weird cool food offered there, and I went across to visit my family and finally my aunt, who was in college then with two English roommates, got me to eat, and I tell you, that was maybe among the sickest I'd ever felt til then, total nausea after eating. (Um, you know, so I was saying to my kid she shouldn't do that herself when she's fifteen.)

But WHY do we have to eat? It just makes no sense. Sleep doesn't either but I enjoy dreaming, so it's not on my list like food is. I'll never figure it out.

So most of you would eat anyway? I don't get it but cool, thanks for the answers.

There are some medications that prevent you from drinking water? That's horrible.

No, I can still take the pills with water, but they still get stuck...

I don't think most people would even know what to do with more time. They are already bored to death as it is. Just look at social media, posting nonsensical viral crap, overthinking bulls**t, spreading bulls**t and what not because they don't have anything better to do.

I don't feel like "food" is taking away precious time from me at all. One can always make time to do something else.

indianasmith

I just savor the taste and texture of food.
The body needs food, but the mouth WANTS flavor!
