So who do you like better?

Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)

Both Legends!

However, my pick would be Lugosi

Gilligan's island, Goonies and Godzilla information booth here!

I really like Karloff, however, Lugosi starred in some pretty awful films but NEVER gave less than his all in a performance despite the lousy script. Karloff phoned in a performance or two over the years when a picture was less than stellar. Lugosi gets top props for his dedication.

I can't pick...I love them both. Both are monster icons and legends.

I will have to go with BORIS KARLOFF but I do think BELA LUGOSI was the better actor.

Neither, to be honest.

Blasphemer!

Of course I can understand if you have never watched any of the 2 actors films. Which I don't think you have.

Hard choice.  I guess I would give it Karloff by a bit, as he has MORE performances I really like.  But I don't know how fair that is, as Karloff also had a much longer period where he was getting good roles.  Like, Karloff is quite good in Targets and does great voice work in the Grinch like a decade after Lugosi had died and like 25 years after his last really good roles.  Lugosi basically only had about 10-15 years to get in some great film work.

I'd say my favorite performance from Karloff is him in The Body Snatcher, and my favorite Lugosi is Ygor from Son of Frankenstein.

This is a tough one.

While I'd say Bela has a very slight edge in versatility and comes across as more striking, he has has a lot more stinkers on his resume than Karloff does.

^ This is true, but would you rather watch GLEN OR GLENDA or the ISLAND MONSTER ?
