Although it is something of a cliché having a battle scene in the rain, I've always enjoyed the one at the end of The Thirteenth Warrior.

Having the final battle in a downpour was likely a nod to Kurosawa. He was known for setting up key scenes under heavy rain.

Look at this article.

As for "The 13th Warrior", I like the film more than I should, but I hate the abrupt editing. A lot was cut / re-shot during post-production and I'd love to see a longer cut.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Review at this website.

As the scene opens, we see a homely boy scout, standing by the side of the road, in the rain, trying to thumb a ride to the nearest youth hostel. His first attempt ends in failure; but, then he is picked up by a beautiful woman driving a Jaq XKE; but then, instead of taking him to the youth hostel, she takes him to her home, where she sexually teases him "My, you are a fine growing boy," plays Snake 'n' Ladders with him, and has him take off all that he has on, so she can give him a sponge bath with a loofah sponge in the sunken tub in her bathroom; and when, she has bathed the top half of his nude body, she has him stand up in the tub "Stand up. We're not finished yet;" so she can wash him "properly;" and when her head dips down and disappears in his groin area, this 15-year-old virgin thinks he is going to get his first sexual experience from a woman. He gets it, and how, but it is not what he was expecting.

This scene is so good that couples recreate it from the beginning to the ending, for their own pleasure.

David Fincher's Seven has many good scenes like this.
