Yes, that's a crocodile; it has a triangular snout; alligators have a more round snout. Alligators are more common in Florida, but a few American Crocodiles live there too.

American Crocodiles are an endangered species, so it was released in the local bay. An Alligator probably wouldn't've been released; there are already plenty of them.
