I'm not interested enough in the case to fashion an informed opinion. Public interest is more about all the political conflicts swirling around outside the case than what actually happened.

I have mixed feelings.  On the one hand, he was clearly being attacked.  He was being beaten with a skateboard and had a gun pulled on him and defended himself. On the other hand, there is NO WAY a 17 year old should have been out on the streets playing vigilante.  If he'd simply stayed home, those folks would still be alive.

That being said, I haven't followed the trial very closely, so I may be unaware of some of the details.

If the punk didn't cross the state line with a car full of guns to a riot-
he wouldn't have shot anybody. He was looking to shoot someone. F^ck him.  :hatred:

I have mixed feeling also.  I despise guns.  I think rittenhouse looked for provocation and found it.  Two men are dead.  Under Wisconsin law, I believe the jury got it right.   The law is the problem, not the justice system.   :bluesad:

He was practicing a hell of a lot of trigger discipline for somebody getting the natural living s**t beat out of him....

I haven't followed this case from my side at all.

In SA we now have an investigation into the riots in July this year: people are filing suit against those who shot at them while they were robbing and destroying property.  :buggedout:

Sadly, that's been the attitude on this end of the pond as well....

there is this idea out there that if someone is threatening you, or they have a gun or something...that the thing to do is to be like "what are you gonna do? come on big guy". It's a bad idea.

Doesn't really change much, but he didn't cross a state line with a gun.  It was already in Wisconsin, his friend who did the straw purchase had it (he's going to get jail time for it in fact).

That said...  I have a pretty negative general view of Rittenhouse, and am suspicious of his motives, but after watching some of the trial, seeing the video, and reading Wisconsin self-defense law, it seemed  fairly obvious he wasn't going to be found guilty of the murder charge.  Also the prosecution was amazingly bad, just awful.  Not a lawyer, just my reading of it.  I also think practically every person around that area where the shooting took place was being foolish at best.  It's also nuts to me a guy who randomly fired shots into the area seconds before Rittenhouse did at the scene of a riot and a felon illegally carrying a pistol aren't facing charges.

Lastly, the amount of misinformation and misleading takes around this entire thing has been utterly bonkers, and this is actually way more concerning to me in a national sense than the outcome of this trial.  In particular, I want to mention to anyone left leaning who has read any mainstream reporting on this case - I can virtually guarantee you have read multiple things about the trial, judge, the riots, and Rittenhouse himself that are misleading or outright falsehoods.

^  Ok he lived in Illinois- got the gun  in Wisconsin.
Why?
Why else? To brandish it at a riot. And he killed 2 people and injured one.
Yes, the justice apparatus in some places are f**ked. This seems to be one of those places.
He should be in prison.

Kenosha & Antioch are only a few minutes apart, Just close enough that Rittenhouse could visit his father, Grandmother, extended family, visit his friends & go to his job, which were all in Kenosha.

^ And? That makes it ok to go to a riot and murder people?
