This sounds like it will be amazing. It will be released in the United States on April 22, 2022.

From Wikipedia here is the premise:

QuoteActor Nicolas Cage begrudgingly accepts a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a billionaire super fan. When things take a wild turn, Nic is forced to become a version of some of his most iconic and beloved characters in order to extricate his wife and daughter from the fan who is a notorious drug lord.

Oh yes, I will be buying this on bluray or dvd.

This looks so meta, it's amazing. There's a video or two on YouTube about how Nicolas Cage memes wrecked his career, taking him away from major blockbuster movies and into semi-indie trash. This movie looks like it takes the Nic Cage meme fodder and uses it to fuel itself, and with any luck, it will get him out of the half baked movies he's unfortunately been corralled into. I like this a LOT. Looking forward to seeing it.

Meta. What does that mean?
Is this some internet slang I don't know about?
I know it's the name of Facebook now (yeh, right ), but other then that- in the context you used it- it makes no sense.

It is easier to give you a for instance on Meta than a meaning. For example, if you take a picture with a phone, it has metadata that can be used to identify when and where it was taken. In D&D if a player uses some information the player would know, but his character doesn't, that is called metagaming. Deadpool breaking the 4th wall would be considered Meta I guess.

I'll go out on a limb and say this gets an Oscar nomination for best original screen play next year

"Meta" technically means something that comes before or is outside or beyond of the thing it modifies. So "meta-physics" is what comes before physics or makes up the basics of physics or is beyond the notion of physics.

When people talk about meta in the arts, particularly literature, they are talking about metafiction, fiction that acknowledges it's a work of art and tries to play with that reality in a clever way. The classic example of a metamovie would be a movie in which the characters didn't know they were in a movie, but we could see senses of the screenwriter making decisions for them.

So this movie is "meta" because it acknowledges the reality of Cage's career and persona outside of the movie, but not within the movie's reality.

People also use "meta" loosely and imprecisely to describe something that's experimental or self-referential, like people loosely and imprecisely use "surreal" to describe something strange or weird.

I suspect I'll see the movie, don't know if I'll review it or not. Doesn't seem meta enough to me.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

I really like this poster for the movie.

Just remember, Bruce Campbell got there first.  :bouncegiggle:

I've got that movie.  It's a lot of fun.  Bruce and Nic would make for a good team in a movie.
