I was watching a documentary one day about the making of NYPD Blue and the director in the interview mentioned that he was a prior cop. I found this to be very interesting and a good example of the dichotomy of the human mind, the fact that someone can go from a such a strict, military like, subculture, to another subculture that is very free and liberal.

Does anyone out there know of any well known (and even not well known) filmmakers or people in the film industry that were prior cops or that worked in law enforcement?

Dennis Farina was a Chicago cop and has played lots of cops on tv and movies.  If anyone watches Law & Order (the original) he will be taking Jerry Orbachs place since his character retired this last season.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.
