ASHTHECAT's question about ever being arrested was the insipration for this one. No, not prison tats....

I just got my first one this last week. It's my name, my wife's name and my daughter's name in japanese and interweaved are our birthdays. It's set up vertically on my right arm, and most of the characters are green and the last character in each row is blue. I thought it was incredibly cool that my wife's name means dark haired (which she is) and my daughter's name means God's Grace.

Any other folks out there got some ink?

While on a journey, Chuang Tzu found an old skull, dry and parched.
With sorrow, he questioned and lamented the end of all things.
When he finished speaking, he dragged the skull over and, using it for a pillow, lay down to sleep.
In the night, the skull came to his dreams and said, 'You are a fool to rejoice in the entanglements of life.'
Chuang Tzu couldn`t believe this and asked, 'If I could return you to your life, you would want that, wouldn`t you?'
Stunned by Chuang Tzu`s foolishness, the skull replied, 'How do you know that it is bad to be dead?'

I hope if you have more kids you add their name. A friend of mine had her son's name tatooed on her back/shoulder and she never added her daughter born a few years later. ;-) There's a girl at work with a chinese symbol on her lower back that means something nice, i keep joking that since she can't read chinese it probably says 'crack whore' and she doesn't know it..lol

No tats. I used to want one but only something meaningful, guess i never found anything meaningfull enough to ink on me permanently. Another friend of mine had a cute dolphin inked on her lower belly. Then she got pregnant and it turned into free willy....

after that i just sorta lost the desire

I wouldn't mind have ing "Fist of the North Star" in Japanese tattooed some where. The main character has seven round scars on his chest in the shape of the big dipper, so maybe I'd get that on my chest. Or mayve the word "Guyver" in japanes also. The characters in Japanese looks cool. I doubt I'll ever get a tattoo though.

Now it's time to sing the nation anthem IN AMERICA!!!

I had a SpongeBob wet-transfer tattoo a while back, but it came off in the shower.

When I was in India in '77-'79, I got a Shivite trident with an intertwined Om symbol on the shaft, above it is a mandala for Ram, on my right shoulder.
It was done in the traditional Rajastani style with a bamboo needle.  It cost me one pair of American sunglasses.  It took 20 minutes to cut in, in 2 10-minute sessions.  It hurt like hell, despite the raw opium I was chewing at the time.
I still have it.  It's faded a bit, but still looks pretty good.  I researched getting it touched-up/sharpened once -- $70?!?!  No thanks.

I have a japanese symbol meaning "hope" on by back, directly between my shoulder blades (it's about 1.5 inches tall).   On my left arm, I have a very large tribal tattoo (samoan looking) on my left shoulder that goes down my back & down my arm (approx 8 inches each way).  It starts out purple, fades into red, then into orange, and into yellow.  It's a free-form, so there isn't any meaning to it.

PS- I'm a female, hence the pretty colored one.

I have a red rose on my left shoulder right above my shoulder blade. I also have a small butterfly on my left ankle. I have "party dots" on my left hand. If I could do it all again...I would just have the rose.

When I was younger I got tats. I have 2 mythical winged cats on my arms which were the first ones I got. I then got 'Metallica' from the Kill 'Em All album done on my arm. Little did I know I would be stuck with this group that I now hate because of them selling out...but that's a different story. I also have a biohazard symbol (not from the group) on my left arm as I was a total drunk at the time and used to joke that I was a walking biohazard...ah the stupidity of youth. If I could just do certain things over...

I won't get a tattoo for two reasons

1) I'm a regular blood donor
2) I try imagine what it would look like when I'm 70 years old and my skin has all sagged

I have quite a few, Megaman on my right leg, milo (descendents) on my left leg, an old hula girl that my grandpa had from back in the 40's that I got on my leg, some flames on my left leg, automatic 7 logo on my left leg, Adam Bomb (garbage pail kid) on my right arm, Losing Faith (garbage pail kid) on my left arm, Atlanta Falcons logo on right arm, and 6 nautical stars.  The only reason I don't have more is that I don't have the money for it at the time being

The Burgomaster

I have 3 tattoos:

1. Left arm - A dancing girl (sort of a serious version of Betty Boop)

2. Left side of upper back - A panther with a giant snake wrapped around it

3. Right thigh - A sort of "biker chick" wearing a black body suit, with one exposed leg.  The interesting part is that the chick in the tattoo has a tattoo on her exposed leg.

I have had all of these for more than 10 years.  I think I got the first one about 15 or 16 years ago.  I almost got another one when I was in Hawaii earlier this month.  Tattoos are very reasonably priced in Hawaii.

In 1992, at the local fair, I got a Canadian flag on my upper right arm. Figured it was something that would always be meaningful. I'd been meaning to do it for a while at that time, and I knew that a mobile tattoo studio usually arrived with the midway, so it was convenient.

Funny, I think it might have been the next summer before my parents even saw it. They actually didn't mind.

Susan - I plan to add my child's name to the tat, and already told the artist to stick around for at least a year because she did such a good job. I purposefully had it off-center so my next child's name would fit right in. If we have twins, looks like it'll turn into a Matrix Tribal or something....lol

I have one on my left upper arm...cannot see it even with short sleeved shirt.  It is my family coat of arms, and I call it "Family Honor."  I got it about six or eight months after my father died.

You can see the basic graphic at

http://www.allfamilycrests.com/r/riley-family-crest-coat-of-arms.shtml

Basically the tatoo is two gold griffins holding the severed bleeding hand.  I learned that the blood drops were actually symbolizing tears for a friend fallen in battle, and given why I got it, I thought that was pretty cool.  Got it on W. Colfax Ave. in Denver.
